Forums - Gaming - Carmack (Rage): 360 is a superior piece of hardware.

@obieslut: That depends on how you define "better".

By contrast, all of Rage's content will fit onto just one of the high-capacity Blu-Ray discs used by the PlayStation 3. However, Carmack shut down many Sony loyalists' blooming braggadocio by saying that while the Blu-Ray disc is clearly his preferred medium, the 360 is a superior piece of hardware for developers.

Guess Carmack has had a lot to say today.

In other news, Gamespot is bias!!!

What a lot of people (read: ps3fannoobs) don't know is that the 360 has a superior GPU.
Therefore the 360 this generation will be one step ahead of the ps3 graphics wise.

I could post the GPU numbers but that could cause ps3 gamers go depressive.

So, what he's really saying is that it's easier to make games on the 360, it just has a whole mess of shortcommings and encourages developers to release sub-par versions of their games? Really, don't tell me that the 360 is the better machine, Mr. Carmack, while telling me at the same time that your games will not be superior on that machine.

Textures are just one aspect, you have lighting - shaders - AA - Aniso filtering - frame rates - resolution - shadows.

A clear advantage on any one of those is possible for the Xbox360, which would certainly make the texture resolution issue moot at least. Many multiplatform games show a clear advantage for some of these different aspects favouring the Xbox360.

only because of lead developing on 360 then porting to ps3, with many times lazy ports.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

ha.

Thats why it took Naught Dog or Insomniacs only 1 year after PS3 release to surpass anything on 360 graphicly with Uncharted and Ratchet.

Reality show PS3 has superior graphics, nothing 360 has coming comes even close to Kllzone2

yes and killzone2 kills it, its lighting is second to none.

beats me how they did it, but they have surpassed anything out there.

@talkingparrot

?!? The Xbox is Multi core symetrical. 7 asymmetrical PS3 vs 3 symmetrical on the 360.

360

CPU

Custom IBM PowerPC

Cores

x3 symmetrical

Clock speed

3.2 GHz each
2 hardware threads per core
1 VMX-128 vector unit per core

The PS3 is not all that and a bag of chips. I like the GPU on the 360 better anyway.

PS3

CPU

"Cell Processor"

Core

PowerPC-base

Clock speed

3.2 GHz
7 x SPE @ 3.2GHz
7 x 128 b 128 SIMD GPRs
7 x 256 KB SRAM for SPE

Consoles: Atari 5200, NES, SNES, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, Xbox 360, PS3
