An hardlycore gamer without a DS ...

Not owning a DS now, is like only owing a Genesis during SNES generation.

It's gotta be Nintendo hate that causes such actions.

huh? I only owned a Genesis instead of a SNES and it wasn't because of Nintendo hate but because I liked sega's games on those days better...and it wasn't a "SNES generation" but a  "16-bit generation". ok?

By definition you are not a hardcore gamer if you do not have all three systems so therefore yes they are buying it.

"Like you know"

I consider myself a hardcore pc gamer and still play the Wii a bunch mainly due to meet a lot of people that aren't gamers and they just come over and always enjoy playing the wii especially not being gamers. Also drunk wii ftw :D

i'm really tired of all those nintendo-abandoned-core-gamers scrap threads and articles. they already released tons of core games and if you add to that GOOD 3rd party core games then you've got a huge amount of games. seriously i don't get it how many games you have to buy every month to say that there aren't any core games? i've got wii for some time and yet i'm still catching up with 2006 and 2007 games(i'm playing 1-2 new games every month). look how many core games nintendo released in first half of 2008 - if this is abandonment then i want nintendo to do this again.

wow, that's a lot of games in one post :P

A....very poorly written article.

I read it all, however, were I a more intelligent man, I would have stopped reading at the point when this person mentioned that he didn't play, and by implication own, a Nintendo DS, yet still managed to claim his anecdotal evidence with regards to Nintendo, and gaming in general, was relevant.

Also, how can you not own a Wii nowadays, honestly? SMG is out for it. It's cheap, and you're a gaming "journalist." How can you not feel a little guilty about not owning a Wii...and how can you not want to throw yourself into traffic for not owning a DS.

Not owning a DS now, is like only owing a Genesis during SNES generation.

It's gotta be Nintendo hate that causes such actions.

Man, I only owned a Genesis and still don't have a DS. Maybe you're onto something............

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Sounds a lot like another person just wants to jump on the bandwagon to get their 15 minutes of internet fame, it's getting old, there's hardcore gamers on Wii that love it (me being one of them) there's hardcore titles on its way, if you don't like the casual games on Wii don't buy them and quit complaining it's that easy I never saw anyone complain about the hundreds of casual titles on the PS1 and PS2 so whats the big deal now?

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

Jesus Christ.....................the article is complete trash. Nowhere near acceptable levels in journalism. Too bad he took his own feelings for everyone elses. Core Gamers buy the Wii, Core Gamers play on the Wii, if it weren't so MK, SMG, Zelda, Brawl, MP3, Red Steel etc wouldn't have sold a single copy. ergo: this article fails very hard.

@ Dno, i suppose you counted all the hardcore wii owners among the 30+ million users, that you say core gamers are in spades? I suppose you went to every town, city, land, country, continent where you can find a wii and did your research?

LAME.

Huh. Who would've thought that beggining anew in my real life would coincide with starting anew on vgchartz?

Any day now, the dollar will be worth less than 2 zloty......any day now.....and my life savings will be in total jepordy ;(.

only the real hardcore play carnival games until their eyes bleed

The graphics leave much to be desired, the games offered are almost laughable in their immaturity and the only carrot that Nintendo has dangled for the hardcore is an casual remark that Mario and Zelda games are in development. Well no kidding. In my experience the gamers that read these sites, watch E3 and actually pay attention to news in the gaming industry typically fall into the hardcore gamer demographic. I don’t see my Mom hitting the forums and message boards and commenting on posts with fiery passion. Nintendo has forgotten about the fans that brought them to where they are today and helped them survive a pretty weak system in the Gamecube. Where would they be today without the support of their most loyal fanbase? Would the Wii even have seen the light of day? So my question for you, as hardcore gamers, is do you own a Wii? Sure there are some great games there: Zelda: Twighlight Princess, Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. But what else are you playing? Are you really buying Wii Fit and excited about Wii Music? For years I was a loyal Nintendo fan. I grew up on Mario and Zelda. I still remember the excitement of getting my first Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64. I regret that those days of unbridled enthusiasm for everything Nintendo are gone. Nintendo has done little, if anything, to remind me that it still has gamers interests in mind. Like all major corporations that stumble upon a big idea at the right time, it is now more about exploiting that idea and making as much money as possible. I guess I can’t fault them for that. It’s what corporations (and people in general, do). However, I do think that by turning their back on the hardcore fanbase that kept them alive for so many years they are taking a risk. If they believe that the casual gamers will be ready to move on when a Wii HD is inevitably announced they may find that the market in which they now operate isn’t as prepared to buy another Wii…

This is about where I stop reading every time one of these screeds pops up every other hour or so. Maybe, some day, when someone actually writes one of these editorials and defines exactly what maturity (or immaturity) in a game entails, I'll start taking people like this seriously.
