Forums - Sales - So... NPD overtracked Ps3 by 700K, while VGC was far closer?

I think we will need to wait untill SONY's 2Q is over before we will see who was right.

Remember that the 80gb is practically sold out and so is the 40gb .... while BC-less-80gb's which SONY will need to of shipped a huge amount would not of been included in SONY's Q1 report since they were proberly shipped early July (assuming its only a 1 month - 1.5 month boat trip from china/Japan to NA/Europe.

How do you know how many where shipped in the US?

The NPD always causes confusion around here. Sales figures are never going to be an exact science after all

That's true. I just hope that people remember that when they flame VGChartz because the PS3/360/Wii didn't sell as well as they optimistically hoped.

I want to hear Diomedes and Crazzy comment on this.

 I don't.

The only evidence we have seen of this is anecdotal, at best. Amazon seal killers says the 80GB is in stock and the 40GB isn't. I go to stores in PA/NJ and they have 40GB aplenty, and some places have the 80GB.

Unless I missed an announcement where Sony said they are running out of 40GB stock, it's all heresay.

VGchartz = closer to actual figures according to VGchartz forum posters but not according to the mass public or Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo.

Not to take anything away from ioi, I suspect that it is probably far easier to get accurate numbers over the long run when you can make the assumption that your data is flawed and adjust numbers as new information comes in then to have to stand by your numbers regardless of what news comes out.

 Shipping from Japan to Europe might take a month. Crossing the Pacific should be about three weeks.

Where is this 4.1 million number coming from?  I don't think Sony did a regional breakdown did they?

I think this is pretty much what he does.

The problem arises when when either the data is vague, a distortion or just plain wrong. This often happens when an executive or marketing person is interviewed or a blogger/reporter misinterprets information. Fanboys jump on this bad data as if it's fact and become extremely annoying when you point out the data could be flawed.

NPD = USA
VGC = all america.

That make it worst(for NPD accuracy) not better.

 Wait why would that be, VGC has this for the PS3 in America until the first week in July(the end of NPDs count for June);

5,297,705(LTD)
We know from Canada NPD the exact amount of their LTD until the end of June;
487,600
Now take that and add in the 4.8 million LTD US per NPD and you get= 5,287,600
Almost on the money. There is no overtracking or undertracking going on here.
Also, as someone else asked where is this 4.1 million number coming from?
