Forums - Sales - Rock Band to cost $400 in Australia - the Price of a Wii..

Nah, this is a complete joke. Why is the game $120 for starters? Nothing retails for more than $99 these days - and $79 for most.

GH (Wii) + TWO guitars costs $149AU.

Prices have been plummeting, because of the strong AU dollar.

You obviously aviod EB games don't you...

Trust me -- PS3 games are RRP $119.95 and EB often tries to charge that while other retailers are lowering the price due to lack of sales / competition (Yay for JB hi-fi and Big W).

But still i can find a Wii for $370 normal price and $370 + game when on sale so when Rock Band 1 is going to be selling for around that i find it preety outrages.

thats outrages australia. beer is free........................................

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

@megaman

ABOUT THAT 70% RISES IN PREMIXED CMON!!!!!!

GH is better anyway...

I am so sick of Aussie complaining about this.

Reasons why prices are higher in Australia.

1. Taxes are included.

2. Higher minimum wage, higher employment taxes.  (U.S. minimum wage $6.55)  This effects the store clerk, the guy who sweeps the mall, the guy who drives it to the store, the guy who works at the gas station, the people who take them off the boat and put them on trucks.

3. Property Taxes are higher, meaning rents are higher.

4. Energy is more money.

5. Currency is growing but less dependable (in investors eyes) for the long.

6. The market is smaller, but still requires corporate structure.

7. You live on an island.

Don't certain toys/software/etc. have excess tax also?

You have medical coverage in Australia, this costs money.  We pay for our own in the U.S.  I pay $160/month as a single male for medical coverage.  Where do you think all that money we save goes?

A Wii is $250+tax in the US, RB is $170+tax.

1. -- its called GST and its 10%. No more, no less... yet we still pay + 70%-90% on games...
2. -- higher minimum wage, sure our minimum wage is double yours, but how many people in the US are living on minimum wage and can afford video-games?? Average wage in Australia is around 37-40k per year for a full time job... whats the average in the US?
3. -- Property tax isn't the big deal. Its the illusion of higer wages ... which only effect stores like eb since K-mart, Big W, Harvey Norman, etc hire staff for the entire store not just videogames...
4. -- Im going to guess transport costs for a single game = $5 in major cities (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne) and $10 in the outback... not that much.
5. -- Well this is effecting the world and has more to do with SONY's assets then the price they charge.
6. -- Yep its a smaller market, a mere $1.52 bn + New Zealand for video games, luckly SONY and Microsoft have other corperate area's...
7.  So what is Australia is an Island. Its still a Continent ... the smallest Continent in the world which is also the world largest Island... im not sure what impact this has on gaming...

PS: Wii is $386 AU here... thats cheaper than Rock Band which is a big part of why people are complaining -- what would you rather, 1 game or a new console ? or perpahs 2 DS? ??

Ouch. If you think Europe got shafted, think of the poor Aussies.

"Firstly, as in Europe, there'll be no all-in-one bundle. You'll have to buy the game separately, and the game is going to retail for AUD$120 (USD$115). For instruments, you've got two options. All will be available individually (guitars are priced at AUD$110/USD$105, with drums and mics TBA) , but you'll also have the option of buying a "hardware kit" that includes one guitar, drums and one mic. That'll cost you AUD$290 (USD$277). So to buy the game and the hardware bundle (ie what you get in the $169 American bundle), you'll be paying AUD$400. That's USD$380."

 This thread is rubbish....

$400 dollars is THE SAME PRICE THE WHOLE OF EUROPE IS PAYING.

Australian dollars are hardly worth anything....You get aboout $235 dollars for £100, if you do the sums you will see that ROCKBAND IS THE SAME PRICE IN THE UK....AND ALL OF EUROPE.

Stop moaning, food and daily living is FAR CHEAPER IN AUSTRALIA, I went there backpacking for a few months and let me tell you, you can live on pennies comparied to the UK and unskilled jobs pay very well.

Quit your moaning plese!

Wow Aus and EU are getting screwed bigtime thats an assload of money just for one game. One thing I do hope that gets fixed is the quality of the equipment supplied. I mean we have had to wait freaking ages for this game, and to be charged this much after waiting for so long, its a slap in the face.

Omg really that much.
