Forums - Nintendo - Red Steel 2 will use Wi Motionplus

This is great news indeed for the new IP red steel. I thought the first one was pretty good it was just rough around the edges that can be smoothed out, and i cant help but wonder since this new peripheral alows for realistic movements im thinking your going to have to learn some actual sword fighting when you fight a boss or something.

@ Dodece. You just proved that you never played the game because there was no sword fighting in multiplayer. This makes all of the "points" that you made irrelevant.

Can't wait to see gun control with Wii MotionPlus haha. NOt just the swords eh.

Almost overlooked this thread. Maybe they'll go on what they started with the first one and continue to differentiate this game from most other shooters. That would be nice. ONe of the reasons I liked the first one more than others because it was different than other shooters. Had other aspects to it.

sweet, now the game might live to the hype of the first one :P

but I can't wait to get more info or some screens =x

I have to ask are the future prospects for games on the Wii this shallow? Are there no other games to get excited about? Red Steel on its very best day might be called slightly below average. There are only two things that saved that game from falling off the radar and into the abyss. A decent soundtrack ashamed of itself for being in Red Steel, and the simplistic gameplay which all, but ensures that you will progress through the poorly designed levels.

I bought Red Steel, and I played the game for over six hours. To put it bluntly I gave this game more of a chance than it deserved. I never enjoyed myself remotely during the entire time. Then I realized why this was. It wasn't the bad controls, gameplay mechanics, storyline, graphics, and artificial intelligence. I recognized the game for what it truly was a first person shooter from over ten years ago with absolutely no polish. In other words I was swimming through crap only to find that the destination was a huge pile of crap.

There really wasn't much to actually redeem this game. Like I said a soundtrack, and the fact that you could make the controls work. Hard though it may sound some games cannot even bother to have working control schemes. Even more reprehensible is the fact that this game seemed to be designed to physically harm the player. Swinging your hands past one another at high speed. Almost an invitation to knuckle smacking fun. especially since the Wii when using the sensor bar is only tolerant of playing within a certain box. Which means your hands are already dangerously close when your going to fight the controls to pull off a special sword move.

I am just plain saddened to see anyone getting excited about this game, because the first game just wasn't any good. The real tragedy is better games will not get a sequel.

I find it funny you try and measure the unnanounced sequel by the rushed merit of its launch predicessor, though I appreciate you trying to rain on its parade, if only you'd have acknowledged all Ubisoft games are just as shallow and poorly flushed out, but alas, I'm sure their HD endeavors are golden works of art. Most of your complaints actually sound like those of people speculating shortcommings for the Wii well before it was ever released. In the end you're just another person who doesn't get motion controls and tries to take comfort in the ever bottle-necking pool of games HD gaming is finding its niche in.

You should stick to posts where facts are involved, when it comes to opinions your credibility and debating skills disintigrate into unproductive rants. Know your strengths and weaknesses and pick and choose your battles. This is not yours to be had, try again later. While your posts against the PS3 are usually in regards to erroneous facts, your posts against the Wii are typically little more than unprovoked displays of contempt for the Wii's unique approach to the video game market.

I find it ironic that someone who only has the courage to re-emerge on these forums now that things look favorable for the 360 once more would be so pretentious as to lecture us, who have been here all along, on the merits of gameplay. Where was your lecturing and high & mighty standards during these past dark days for the 360 where you, like so many other 360 fanboys, were on a long and unexplained hiatus? You're all talk when things seem in favor of your brand of choice, but otherwise you've not even the courage to show your face on the forums.

Tell me, does it really worry you to think that people might be excited about a game, about a console, that you've nothing but contempt for? Tsk Tsk.

@NightDragon83: I guess we're pretty much on the same page with this. I just don't think that the fact that Red Steel didn't deliver on it's promises is a negative thing for Red Steel 2. I'd have been more worried if we had saw RS2 this past holiday season. Given that RS2 won't be out until at least fall 09, I think the fact that they are taking their time and know very well how RS disappointed many is going to make RS2 a quality product.

And I agree, Rogue Squadron II does look better than most Wii games. :)

So 2010 release date confirmed?

Amusing post by Docede though. Red Steel was bad... but bad from the standard of a Wii shooter.

It was still better then most of the next gen duel joystick affairs released.

The main reasons the game got such low reveiw scores were....

1) It was the first FPS game for wii... takes a while to get used to.

2) The ads made it seem like you'd be able to do some badass freewielding swordfighting... instead of the rare duels the game deliver.

3) It's pretty mediocre... though still... with the wii controls... better then a lot of duel joystick games like Army of Two and it's ilk.

Do not want.

ubisoft knew about the new technology before e3 if i remember correctly. They were asked a question and rs2 was mentioned to which they replied something like "we know about nintendo's future plans for the wii". does anyone know where i could find the interview where they said that?

Yes they most certainly did.. They alluded to the user interface in particular so I'm sure Ubisoft knew about Wii MotionPlus  a while before it was officially announced..

I'm also actually looking forward to this game now I'm sure Ubisoft will fix most of the gripes we all had with the first one but I'm just hoping that they really try to innovate further with Red Steel 2.. Give us more multiplayer levels, give us online multiplayer, wiispeak support and fix those awful bloody cutscenes.. But Ubisoft I want innovation! Give us a damn good game, show everyone what a Wii game really can be and you'll see the sales!

I'm really looking more forward to The Conduit and really who wouldn't be? I think next year will be the year of the Wii in a big way..

The first thing I thought when I saw motion plus is this is why Ubi have gone quiet with Red Steel 2 news recently.  Ubi knew and hopefully now we'll get more and stronger Wii announcements from them in 09.
