I don't mind it when people make fun of the big, dumb, corporate behemoth that is Gamestop. After all, they pay little more than minimum wage and they treat everyone who actually works in one of their retail stores like shit, but when people make rash generalizations concerning the employees, that ticks me off.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to deal with a condescending customer because he thought I was a high school drop out simply based on where I chose to work. I can't tell you how many times I've had to tell a pissed off eight year old "I'm sorry, I can't take apart your GBA and fix it" and then immediately be the recipient of an evil scowl from a parent. "I'm sorry, your copy of MLB 2003 only gets you 50 cents" is another phrase that draws the same ire.

The reason I originally became an employee in November of 2006 was because I needed a job, and this job would have the added benefit of giving me 15% off of one of my favorite hobbies and a 30% discount at Barnes and Noble :) That being said, I did kind of know how GS employees were percieved by the public. I've had to deal with a few dumbasses myself, and I know that actual knowledge about video games there is at a premium.

With that being said, why do I defend these people? Because despite the seemingly lacking knowledge of video games, almost every person I've worked with has been a good guy/girl, just like you and me who struggles through college and most likely still lives with their parents. I've seen and felt how people treat us in there and it sucks.

Do you know what it's like to be hit while your hands are tied behind your back? I graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA and I'm currently a senior Chemistry major in college and I'm only 20 years old. I've had assholes in there telling me that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell them that a 50 cent trade in value is a rip-off. I've had people tell me that their four-year-old child has more business sense than me. What do these things have in common? It's not my problem. I simply work for a company that has set policies that I cannot deviate from without worry of termination. I don't need people taking their frustration out on me for things that are out of my control.

My point is this; Certain occupations have certain stigmas attached, I understand that, but how you treat people is under your complete control. When I read things on these forums bashing all GS employees for this and that, it only furthers the stereotype, making my job harder, and only pissing more people off. Next time you feel like bashing all GS employees I want you to take a drink instead :) It'll make us all feel better.

Heh it happens man, sorry to hear you work at a bad gamestop I work at a nice one, it's small and we get screwed over as far as hours go, but other then that we get mostly nice customers, a smart staff, and hell I even fix some peoples broken stuff while I got nothing to do. But yeah GS employee's have a stereotype because there are some bad apples here and there, the company is relaxed as far as rules go compared to other corporations, and it's a good place to work when you factor in how many jobs pay minimum for way more work and the raises are much better then most jobs, I know people who work government jobs and get a 5 cent raise for doing a good job, and people that do a pretty shoddy job at GS will get at least a 5 cent raise.

Next time you should tell those ignorant Game Party buying 40 year old parents that sports games have a crap trade-in value. Parents these days think their brat deserves everything just because they made a mistake all those years ago :-p

Anyways, I know it can be tough. I used to work at McDonald's and people were always like "so how is the burger flipping business?" and I just wanted to say to them "well obviously it's doing well thanks to fat people like you."

It's just something we have to deal with.

@MaxwellGT2000 - The money in negligible to me, as it's a second job I hold just for the discount. The way I get treated though...it sucks. It's actually in a pretty nice part of town, but even that has its downsides. It's amazing how many people on this site are so quick to bash their local employee without a second thought

I have no problems with gamestop or their employees. Heck that company has single handedly kept me in gaming cuz i just don't always have $20 for a new game. Only problem i have ever had is with this one dude who never believes I'm over 17 even though I'm 22, damn it sucks when you forget your ID just for a $5 copy of Socom 2
