Well Pioneer has announced they will stop manufacturing their own Plasma panels and use Panasonic ones.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned: As the phosphor in Plasma TVs degrades with use, you want to keep the wear even. So if you plan on watching a lot of anything that isn't 16:9, you will either be best to stretch it or you might see a difference in the colours where the black boarders usually are.

Exactly my opinion.
you made the right choice going for a plasma televison overall it has a better picture quality that lcd especially for watching sport all these extra 120hz models dont make a difference when the images arent being sent in 120hz so really its pointless, however i would of went for the panasonic as they have the best panels around unless u buy a bryan and olephant tv but they are ridicoulsy expensive and im pretty sure all are custom built i may be wrong there but overall u should be happy with ur samsung hope u managed to get the series 6 models they are ace

The 120 Hz refresh rate is for displaying 24p content without the judder. (120 being a multiple of 24).
And the "Motion Plus" or "motion flow" technologies make a fucking huge difference. Basically frames are interpolated and displayed at 120 Hz. The effect is extremely noticable. Motion is seriously ultra-smooth and this is no understatement. You could compare it to when you fast forward video.
Some people find it distracting though, as it gives movies a "soap opera effect" (cinematic film is shot at 24 fps, while TV cameras do 60 fps) and many people like the dreamlike motion-blurred look of cinematic film.

30 and 60 are also multiples of 120, which is why that is the magic number. And yes Auto Motion Plus makes a giant difference. Some people hate it, some people love it. I like it on low or medium, high with Pixar type movies. I also think LCD's these days are ahead of Plasma's all around, by a fair amount too. Getting a mid to high end TV of either type should make you happy either way.
The Sammy 950 series rolls out next month with all the bells and whistles of the 650/750 series, but with LED backlights. Will be pricey, but the blacks on these will be deep, and they should have even less blur, though I have a 650 and I see no blur on mine.
I was at Sears today looking at televisions while my roommate picked up a PS3 and speakers. The higher end Sammy, Sony, and Panasonic LCD's looked the best in the store, even better than any of the Plasma's they had. Like a lot of people have said, go to some store's and just check the TV's out. Bring your game system and test the blur and PQ and decide then. You'll be happier knowing you tried out your games on multiple TV's and chose the one YOU though looked best.
Well, we've learned some things here:
A. People disagree about which type of TV is best.
B. Brand and features are more important than LCD verses Plasma
C. Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic all make really nice high and low end HDTVs, but you'll have to pay a high price for them
D. All anecdotal evidence is different.
You picked a Samsung based on my, and others suggestions, as well as your own judgement. I also thought the Samsung TVs look the best(which is why I bought one). However, I chose the LCD model for my own various and personal obsessions, none of which had anything to do with saving the environment, and most of which had to do with not having to worry about my televisions screen, ever.
I think you made the right choice. You chose the set that you felt was right for you.
As long as you can say that, then you've done well.
I thoroughly research all my purchases. I definitely think that is the best route to go when choosing electronic devices. They aren't all classifiable as best or worst. They are different things for different people. Some like PSP, some like DS. Some like Panasonic, some like Toshiba. Some like Sony, some like Samsung, hell, some like Sanyo and Vizio, because like it or not, price is an issue with nearly everyone, and it matters.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
