Forums - Gaming - The best next-gen gaming system is also the most expensive. FACT!

@shio...Where does that 270 million figure come from.
Also I'm pretty sure there are just as many gamers.... Only the "hardcore" buy every system. Many people only buy 1 console and leave it at that.

I suppose you are probably right when you tally up multiple accounts, and accounts of Koreans and Chinese who don't actually have a PC, but use internet cafes.

Transporting a PC to and from a TV is awkward, even doing this with my Gamecube was annoying.
People don't want to buy an extra PC just for connecting to a TV, it would also need a keyboard and mouse to set it up before getting to the game... which would need to be stored somewhere when you are not gaming.
Well I haven't bought a PC in a while, but our last one was much uglier than the 360, and 2-3 times the size at a guess. And PS3 looks good to me, but only from certain angles... I have a Wii, it is consierably less imposing and more stylish than your average PC stack.

Adding things to the list to buy is not making PCs a better option. So rather than just buying a Wii, I have to buy a PC, a controller, and an expensive chair.
------
You have to look atthis from a normal consumers view... take my house for example (average semi in the UK, probably more than average amount of space).

In my parents room there is a desk with a computer and printer on it.... You could fit a TV on there too (although that's more to buy) but first of all it's not my room, so I couldn't game when I wanted, and second I would have to sit in a computer swivel chair, not designed for lounging back and gaming.
In my bedroom I couldn't fit a computer stack/keyboard anywhere. (and if I could it means buying another because I am not transporting it from my parents room)
Similarly downstairs there is no room for it anywhere near our TV (The Wii just fits into a little gap of the TV stand)

PC gaming is bigger than all home consoles combined, both in userbase and profit. There are an estimated 270 millions Online PC Gamers. I don't know why people some people keep saying that consoles are more popular (unless you're including handhelds).

And what's so hard about connecting a PC to a TV? It's as easy as connecting a console. There is no awkward transproting because all you need is move the PC to near the TV!! PCs aren't heavy.

'fugly' PC??!! That's so idiotic to use that as your arguement since PS3 looks terrible (Imo) and Xbox 360 looks just like a PC!!!

You want your PC near your printer and in your desk, so why are you arguing against people who DO want their PC near their big TV? And if you really wanted to play on your PC, you would get a comfy chair for your desk, just like a decent PC gamer does. My chair is very comfy, and I almost never get tired from sitting on it.

As I said in a post above, PCs are getting more intuitive, with less compatibility issues and more auto-patching and updating. However, consoles are getting less intuitive, with more installs and patching issues than ever.

O really?? Not in NA:

PC Games 14% of 2007 Retail Games Sales; World of Warcraft and Sims Top PC Sales Charts

Jan 24, 2008 5:16pm CST tags:

Of the $18.85 billion the video game industry generated at North American retailers throughout 2007, only $910.7 million of that, roughly 14%, was attributed to PC games.

Data from the sales-tracking firm NPD reveals that retailers sold 267.8 million games in 2007, 36.4 million of which were PC titles. Console games brought in $6.6 billion, selling 153.9 million units total, while portable software hauled a record $2 billion in revenue with 77.5 million units sold.

You just made the most ignorant post that several console gamers do, which was to quote the NPD Retail figures.

I won't even bother to counter-argue.

Who gives a rats ass? Play what you want to play.

Graphic Designers use a Mac.. We don't want a windows PC.. :P

Check the software sales figures for graphic design software and then see if your sweeping generalization isn't about as useful as most generalizations.

Grampy.. I'm a graphic designer.. most of the software sales of the Adobe software are indeed for the PC but that is including the schools and other people who buy Photoshop, lightroom etc.. If you're gonna go specific into graphic design (Indesign, illustrator, Acrobat) then you would see almost everybody uses a Mac.. Why? because a Windows system hasn't got good Offset support.. What you see on your screen in Windows is not what you get on Offset.. especially the font system is really bad (TrueType is useless for Offset).. it may look good on screen but you will get in troube while bringing it to offset.. And you don't want to mess that up because offset is really expensive... you don't want to reprint everything... that's why we use a mac to ensure that we have the best possible recreation of the design..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

To be fair though for a PC vs Console comparison you have to either have a display for either both or neither.

The best gaming system out the is also the most expensive but in truth for those who really couldn't be bothered about the money, It also has the most games!

Yes... the PC can be built as the best system and while many of the other consoles, even the PS3 sometimes don't allow 1080 resolution, we can have it on quite a few games!

We have the most vast library of games, which includes the MAJORITY of exclusives released for the X-Box 360 for example + we are certain to have the best iteration of games that are multi-platform as most are them are built on a PC first.

We also look forward to games like Crysis Warhead that could probably force a few consoles to melt or really nice rpgs like Diablo or strategy games like starcraft 2. We have the best MMO so far in World of Warcraft.

So really, I couldn't care less...  I find myself reluctant to shell out $400 for a PS3 while I don't mind building a $2000 Core 2 Quad pc. And really, my next-gen gaming system would eat your little console alive... or dead...

Very common mistake-- just because games are built on PC's does not mean they automatically work on the PC.  The engine must know how to make something the PC can use and not all engines can do that or are even made to do that first.

Also, opinion doesn't equal fact.  Your Pc might be awesome but that doesn't mean I can sit on my couch and play it on my big screen TV.  Personally, I don't like being huddled over looking at even a 21" monitor playing my game when I could be relaxing on my comfy sofa while playing my game on a 40" TV.

Those problems you speak of do not really matter because of one company...M$.  Their 'bloatware' keeps compatibility issues to a minimum in regards to software.  It is called Legacy Code.

You don't know what you're talking about.  As I said, games are made on PC's but not all engines make something that PC's can use.  It's confusing because you can run the game on a PC in a lot of editors but that just doesn't mean that the game automatically runs on all PC's unless users want to run their game through the editor (which they don't).

If they want a game to run on the PC, they have to 1) make the engine be able to talk to the PC and make something it can use and 2) make an install file which can be harder than you would think.

This isn't a simple compatability thing, it's just even though the game is made on a PC thing, it doesn't always work on the PC thing.

It doesn't play a single Nintendo game. Major Nintendo games are consistently rated among the best games of all time. A Wii is therefore needed to play many of the best games ever (through GC backwards compatibilty and VC too). If there were no consoles, only PCs, then you would miss out on the chance to do so.

Therefore your statement is not a FACT. It is an OPINION, which means other people can disagree.

The PS3 has 5 games with 90+ on meta critic,http://www.metacritic.com/games/ps3/scores/

The Wii has 5 games with 90+ on metacritic, http://www.metacritic.com/games/wii/scores/

The Xbox has 12 games with 90+ on metacritic, http://www.metacritic.com/games/xbox360/scores/

The PC has 79 games with 90+ on meacritic(of which over 30 was after 2004), http://www.metacritic.com/games/pc/scores/

An now, it is a FACT because, while u are saying that PC gamers cannot play some wii games, it does also mean that Wii gamers will not be able to play the vast majority of the PC games. This is also true for the Xbox or the PS3.

The PC has the best backward compatibility. Only last week, I played Warcraft I in multiplayer over a lan and that game was about 15 years old.

thus, you fail. Next please.

How many of those 79 games can you walk into a store today and buy?

How many of those games on the various three consoles can you walk into a store today and buy?

There are next gen gaming systems available now?

Oh, you mean current gen...

Yeah PC is great, too bad a good graphics card, CPU, and MB are more money than most people can afford... and people like playing together in front of the TV.

Current gen Graphic cards allow people to plug directly to the TV. Hence, if someone really wanted it, they could just aswell play infront of their tv. I know a great many people that have a home theater PC which is prettymuch putting a PC in your living room that acts as an entertainment hub to play movies, music etc.

That's assuming a few things though.

That's assuming I have a current gen graphic card because I could have bought one 6 months ago and it's nowhere near current.

That's assuming my TV has a PCMI slot if my graphics doesn't have the other hookups.

That's assuming I want to go through the hassle of moving my computer from my desk and fiddle around behind my TV every time I want to play a game.  Not everyone uses their PC solely for gaming, some people aren't 12 and do actual work and non gaming stuff on theirs.

If I wanted to play games on my PC I'd have to pay $250 for Windows. I might as well just buy a 360.

I gave up on PC gaming about a decade ago.

The systems change too much too often. This means that unless you keep up to date, you can't be sure to play the latest games. And if you do keep up to date, you can't play your old games.

Damned if you and damned if you don't.
