Forums - Gaming - Soul Calibur IV to have online play

Sou Calibur IV will have online play in both versions when it comes out in 2008 bringing into question Sega's previous argument that online play is not possible with a fighting game with pin point movements (see VF5).

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160573

but the old dismissal that online networking isn't fast enough for the split-second timing seems to be failing -- or companies have come to terms with it. Either way, the latest issue of EGM spills the beans: Soul Calibur IV will have online networking when it arrives on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I see three possibilities:

1. Sega was lazy and making excuses.
2. Sega was right and this is going to suck.
3. Sega didn't have the know-how to do it, but Namco Bandai does.

or how about a fourth possibility:

sega was right and the online gaming will suck

or a fifth:

VF5 is faster paced than soul calibur

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

This has been explained several times before. VF5 cannot be played on-line with seriously compromising gameplay. VF5 has the most precise timing of any 3D fighting game. The loss a mere frame can throw the game off. Unless everyone suddenly has internet connections that ping at 15, VF5 cannot be played on-line. This horse has been dead for months, so would you please stop beating it. KruzeS went into great detail about why VF5 isn't currently possible on line. Read his response to this thread

Great news ,I hope it can be played by both versions online ....PS3 users against X360 users with blades and axes ....now that would be great !

I have my doubts about either company ever allowing competitive play on their consoles. It would definitely be an awesome idea though. I just don't see it happening

ha, imagine the in game arguments/swearing.

people would be suing sony and ms left and right for abuse.

You should hear 360 gamers yelling at PC gamers when they play Shadowrun.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
