With just over a week to go until the official opening of the Beijing Olympic Games, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games on the Nintendo DS are already waving the flag, claiming the top spot in the Aussie sales charts according to data trackers GfK. A spokesperson for GfK Australia confirmed to GameSpot AU that the spike can be attributed to last week's Target offer, which bundled the game with Nintendo DS consoles.

Second place for the week of July 21-27 went to Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Wii, which was also bundled with the Wii in last week's Target catalogue. The Wii Play bundle, which comes with a Wiimote, came in at third, while Wii Fit sits just below it in fourth. Taking out the fifth spot was the SingStar Party Hits bundle on PlayStation 2. Mario Kart Wii fell three spots from last week, taking out the sixth place. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? can be found in seventh spot, with Super Smash Bros. sitting behind it in eighth. More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? moved up one position, to take out the ninth spot. Tenth place went to the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.

lol Secret Agent Clank #1 in New Zealand :P Who had expected that to happen ? :P

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

New Zealand - the final frontier (for Nintendo).

I heard that the local Ninty distributor in the NZ region went bust (or close to it), but I just wonder how "competent" they were in the first place. Its been a Playstation country for years - pity it isn't bigger (sales-wise).

(Australia is less than 10% of the US, and NZ is around 10% of Australia... hmm)

...

I picked up TWO copies of WiiPlay tonight. Why?
My local JB is basically NOT selling the Wiimote anymore - just WiiPlay/Wiimote bundles. Guess the profit margin is slightly higher on them!

(finally own 4 controllers now...)

Gesta Non Verba

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Game Assessment website

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

Full priced games in oz. Not likely as Lego star wars is discounted heavily. Massive gap between MS Olympics Wii and DS. Smash hasn't hung around either

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

^ Lego Star Wars got a boost from being bundled with Wii at Target, same for M&S which was bundled with DS by them.
