Wow.... after the second one broke I would have thrown in the towel.....
There is a dude on IGN who said he had 10 of them, after the tenth he got a ps3 and was done with the 360....

@munkeh... It was about a 2 week turnaround. From the day I called MS. Another interesting observation: The DVD drive is MUCH quieter than the last one... I still don't understand how it could have been JUST manufactured and it doesn't have an HDMI port, though. I wonder what motherboard it is...

Havent they developed a new motherboard designed to fit in the old xbox 360s?

I believe it is the "Opus" motherboard.  It is a die-shrunk CPU and no HDMI but I believe the GPU is still 90nm.  I don't see how this is "new" since the shrunk CPU has been around for a while, but it recently turned up on IGN with the title "Opus Motherboard Spotted" and was specifically talking abou the new board as a retrofit.  What I CAN'T figure out is why I have a June, 2008 serial number device and it doesn't have HDMI.  This one was sealed up nice and neat with little plastic protectors and had a plastic cover installed where the hard drive would go.  From that, I assumed it was probably a brand new "arcade" model.  1 of my previous 5 units was also clearly new but the others were all clearly refurbs as they were much older serial numbers.  At this point, I don't think even MS knows how many variations they have in the wild.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Opus is designed to fit into the case of the older style non-hdmi Xbox360s. Its the final solution for those models.

Tease.

Has anyone else ever had a fake TRL? Since owning the console i've mostly only had to deal the occasional game ruining freeze-up, but on two occaisions the thing wouldn't start up at all and promptly got TRL. After drinking a beer and venting for a bit while planning to call msoft, i tried it again and it worked each time.

Last week we had a REALLY violent thunderstorm approaching our area and I didn't know it was coming.  I was happily playing my 360, which I have plugged directly into the wall (as recommended by MS) and the power flickered just for a second.  My 360 turned off and then immediately back on and flashed the red lights.

I turned it off and back on and it was fine and has been fine ever since.  I read online that power flickers like that will sometimes give you a "false" hardware failure, so I'm not worried about it.  But for a minute there I was absolutely horrified.  The new Tiger Woods comes out soon and I would hate to be without my 360 that day.  Thank god for the internet.  There were plenty of people on plenty of forums with my same story and none of them had any further problems after a simple restart.

Wow, that really sucks. I'm lucky.

I've only dealt with one 360 breaking on me.

Forget it RROD is wack yo good thing you have old reliable.

Since you have Jesus in your sig, WWJD? Jesus wouldn't troll and be a complete jerk like you are.

OT: KN, glad you got your unit back. I am going to buy an Arcade as soon as it hits $199. After my move, I got RROD twice but it went away after rebooting. I have it on my armoire and it's got enough air to breathe. However, it was wrapped up in a box in a vault for over a month.

Congrats, man.
