As you know MS has claimed that the 360 WILL outsell the PS3 "this generation".This is the thoughts of the daddy of PS.

"The key word there is this ‘lifecycle’ or ‘this generation’. As you probably know, we’re working on a ten-year lifecycle, we’ve said that since day one and we’ve proven it with PSOne and PS2. I guess Don is saying they’re also going to be embarking on a ten-year lifecycle, then? If they are then that’s terrific, but I’ve never seen them manage it before. Last time I checked, the Xbox went by the wayside four or five years after launch.

On the other hand, if he’s saying that Microsoft will outsell us after five years, if he calls that this generation, then he’s saying he’s going to exit the 360 business within five years. Well I guess that will be about right.  I expect to see some information regarding the successor next year or early 2010.  The PS3 will be breathing down the 360's neck around this time.

The Sony guy isn't disputing that the 360 will outsell the PS3 this "generation" but is suggesting that it won't outsell the PS3 when the PS3 stops selling altogether.

Of course, the PS3 having a 10 year life cycle is possible, but I'd say unlikely given its starting points.

Hirai isn't sure what the PS3's cycle will be, either. Iwata is right- consumers decide the length of life of any product.

The life cycle I would go for will be up to 7 years. 5 years is too short and 10 years is really stretching it.

this guy has no class. He makes a stupid comment regarding the xbox when he knows that the short run time of that console had nothing to do with MS deciding to stop production or anything similar.
