It's nice to know that while Corruption may not have anywhere near the graphical muscle of it's 360/PS3 counterparts, it still looks fantastic. Score one for the art department!

As for the game itself. I'm cautiously optimistic that the Wii FPS control scheme will be an improvement over traditional controls. Very cautious.

Personally, I think at some point the controls will be better than a game pad, but still inferior to a keyboard/mouse. There are a few obvious obstacles to overcome, and it's simply going to take some clever thinking to circumvent them.

The easiest and most important example is centering: if you're pointing the Wii remote at the screen, and are already on the far left side, it's hard to turn farther left. With a mouse, you simply pick it up, put it back on the center of the mouse pad, and drop it again. Done. Nothing like that is immediately possible on the Wii mote, but I can think of a few lame ways to get around the problem. We'll see.

Please note that I say this will be true at some point: it may not be Metroid Prime that jumps all these hurdles.

Actually, there is a great way to do that (credit to RE4 Wii edition for this): You simply hold down the trigger to enter a mode where you can then turn the camera much quicker (i.e, the pointer is always centered on the screen and when you move the Wiimote the camera moves).

I'm afraid that conceptually, the whole idea of "Picking the Mouse up and moving it" sounds impractical and archaic. Sure it works, but it sounds so much more of a quack job way of going about things than say, holding a button and the cursor's no longer attatched. Duh.

The new scans look really good.
I've never been a huge Metroid Prime fan, only having played a little of the first and not being fond of console FPS titles (not because I think they are bad, I just can't get good at them - I need my mouse and keyboard), but I'm keeping a close eye on Prime 3. If Nintendo nail a solid control scheme and add online multiplayer, the game could do well enough to not necessarily to be a Halo killer, but end up being Nintendo's "Halo" game (i.e. THE FPS to play on the system).

For the life of me, I cannot get excited about this game. Maybe I'm still bitter that they turned Metroid into an FPS platformer.

Oh, and no way is this game a Halo killer. I'll be shocked if it sells at 1/3 the rate of H3.

Agreed on not being a Halo killer, but otherwise I disagree.

I'm honestly surprised that Metroid Prime remains the only First Person Adventure franchise in existence (the essential distinction being that this game emphasizes exploration over action). It's initial offering is considered one of the top ten or twenty games ever created by critics; why is no one following suit? Why are all First Person games still about blowing crap up, and not about discovery? I'm not asking that they all transfer over, but given the reception of Metroid Prime, you'd figure at least one other game would enter the sub genre.

Because a game like Metroid Prime needs a longer development time than a standard FPS and probably will sell less units than a standard FPS. Pretty much the same reason why we see more clones of Devil May Cry/God of War games than Zelda clones. The latter needs more development time and likely sells less units (Okami being a prime example for this).

And on topic, screens as expected, will buy this game anyway.

Nice needless jab at DMC and GoW.  I'm pretty sure GoW had a longer development time than Okami.  I own GoW 1, 2, and Okami and they are pretty much the same kind of experience with different art/graphics and different combat system.  Zelda isn't far off.  Also, I'm pretty sure Zelda sells better than GoW and DMC, so I'm really not sure if you had a point at all.

It takes a lot of effort to create something as complicated as a Metroid game done right.  That's all that needed to be said.

PS:  The screens look pretty good.  I might pick up some used copies of the first 2 games and try em out.  I haven't played a Metroid game since Super Metroid.

I still want a 2D (gameplay) Metroid on the Wii (or DS). Don't care if it uses a 3D engine or pure 2D. It would be too awesome.

Agreed. I too would like to see another 2D Metroid game. Were over due for one on the DS.

I won't be getting this game till my birthday early September. I might be missing out.

I'll third this notion. I was really disappointed when I found the DS M:P game was in first person. The DS is a great 2D platform and a 2D Metroid game would be a great fit.

I still think it could look better...but those screenshots are hardly representative...I am definitely looking forward to some high quality vids.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

i concur.  i don't play 3D games and i want to find out why anybody gets excited over metroid.

the Wii is an epidemic.

My only gripe about the graphics so far is Samus's waist. That suit looks like it's about to cut her in two! I know that sex is supposed to sell... but that's not sex, it's deformity. Come on Nintendo, Give her a sandwich. I'm sure it's easier to save the galaxy on a full stomach.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

not to change the topic, but did anybody notice the odd coloring of her suit in a few of those pictures? possibly hints to new suits? however, the one looks like the gravity suit, but the other one looks like it is a pre-varia suit.

Ohh, and somewhat on Topic: If anyone cares, new World Record speed run on Metroid Prime. 1 hour, 3 minutes.
