Forums - Sales - 360/PS3 worlwide sales this year!?

In the first 6/7 months of this the year, the sales of both the 360 & PS3 are as follows:

Region Xbox 360 PS3
North America 1,637,690 1,829,167
Japan 75,467 521,241

Others

1,996,442 2,879,078
Total 3,709,599 5,229,486

As you can see.  The PS3 has sold 1,519,887 more than the 360 in the same time period this year.

In fact, the PS3 has sold more units in each of the 3 regions than the 360.

Although the biggest difference is in Others, where the PS3 is outselling the 360 significantly on a regular basis.

The PS3 has obviously a long way to go before out selling the 360 on a worldwide total sales basis, but it is catching up and the PS3 should overtake the 360 sales in Others in the next 3 months.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

I'd like to be the first to say....yes

While there is still a long way to go, I would think that the PS3 could close the gap by another 3m this year quite easily, maybe more if Little Big Planet has a huge effect

running up to xmas 2008 ps3 will be right behind 360, i wouldnt be to suprised if ps3 was ahead in feb-2009

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

yea i was talking about this in another thread. ps3 really has changed a lot since last year. and its with a higher price and (as some people say) less games. i dont think any console in history has started at 600 bucks sell poorly for a year then had a turn around to beat one of the competitors like the ps3 has.

I cant wait to see what happens when sony lowers the price. its been a while since a price cut has happened and thats prolly all they need in all 3 regions to really lock in second place. Even without one its pretty set in stone it will be in scond tho.

one game fails to boost sales, i hope it has that effect though

No game this year will boost sales better for the PS3 than Metal Gear Solid 4. It was an established franchise with a dedicated and established fan base who waited a long time for it. I think its boost approximately matched Halo 3's boost from last year, but it is hard to say for sure due to seasonal differences.

I think the PS3 will sell about 11 million units this year, and the Xbox 360 will sell about 8 million units. If you look at holiday sales from last year, the 360 crushed the PS3 in each month. I think, at best, the PS3 will match the 360 during the holiday season.

A little game called Halo 3 says hello for that holiday boost

this is from october - the end of december

Console PS3 X360
Total
3,945,449
3,981,768

a crushing defeat?

Its only a matter of time really before it it catches it up, although still a while off. The 360 really needs a proper price cut now.

There's something a bit odd here.

Sony said that they would only ship (make) 10M for the FY 2008.

Ps3 had sold 11.5M untill that time, so it is natural to assume that there were 13M Ps3s made untill then.

Sony has already sold 5.2M, meaning that they have already made 3.7M extra. This leaves 6.3M left for Ps3, if it sells out.

Now, the 360 is likely to sell roughly 10-12M this year. After all, it is tracking 50% above last year.

This leads to

A) Sony lied. They're making more than 10M.

B) The 360 will have a signifficant bigger 4th quarter (of the year, not fiscal wise) than the Ps3, which will be supplied constrained.

It just doesn't seem natural to me that Sony would make the Ps3 supply constrained too, making the 360 the only console that has stock.
