The best part of the whole statement is "So if we're doing that, let's compare apples to apples"

Comparing a System that was dominately in 1st place with one struggling to try to make it to 2nd. Apples To Apples?

Comparing 2 BC systems to 1 Non BC system and its predecessor. Apples to Apples?

Comparing a system that had the VAST majority of 3rd party support and exclusives in its generation to one that is losing exclusives left and right. Apples to Apples?

I have nothing against Sony or the PS3, but they really need to shut Kaz up, as he present a very stubborn, ignorant, and very out of touch front for Sony's game division.

it isnt "struggling" to 2nd place you idiot! the only reason it aint there is because it released a year later!

Oh, right, that's why the Wii isn't in 1st place either! Oh... Wait...

One thing is for sure, if the PS3 keeps selling and Sony keep supporting it then 3rd parties will still release games for it and it can last for a long time. It all depends on if Sony pull the plug or not, if they don't then neither will 3rd parties because the PS3 will have a respectable userbase no matter what happens from here on out.

I am almost certain that Microsoft will be planning the next Xbox for 2010 release, Sony are best served to continue with the PS3 and forget about what Microsoft do.

Kaz Hirai Wonders Where The GameCube, Xbox Are...

So E3 came and went, and we still don't have a hard and fast date for Home yet. Sure, we've got a "fall" dating for the Home Beta, but still, people have been waiting. And people kinda wish that Sony would hurry it up! According to Kaz Hirai, Sony's trying to make it right so that first time users have a positive Home experience. Fair enough! Says Hirai, "...we don't want to prematurely launch it and then be dinged for having a bad service... this is a platform initiative which means that we need to be extra careful that we've crossed all the 't's and dotted all the 'i's." And hey, Sony is in it for the long haul. No need to rush. Just listen to Hirai chime in about that 10-year-life-cycle and keeping the last hardware generation alive:

And we certainly don't do the consumer the disservice of basically saying that the consoles have gone by the wayside because we have a new one. Right now, a prime example? PS2 is nine years into it. Where's the Xbox? Where's the GameCube?

Same thing with the original PlayStation. At some point we looked around and asked what happened to the Saturn? Where's the N64? So if we're doing that, let's compare apples to apples, and for me, because we're on a ten year life cycle, unless we're talking ten years it doesn't really make that much sense to me.

The only way Kaz Hirai tracks time is with decades.

Um, the Xbox and the Gamecube are inside the current gen consoles from your competitors...

Edit: I don't really care about BC, but Kaz should think about how his words can be twisted before speaking.

LOL

Check out my game about moles ^

for those saying the ps3 won't be profitable til 2009 or 2010, are you talking selling the system for a profit or are you talking making back the 3.3 billion? because the ps3 should be selling for profit this xmas when they implement the two smaller chips. also, one last hurrah for the ps2 and continued good sales for the psp and lots of software should make Sony a good profit for the end of the year and maybe for the fiscal year. the most expensive parts of the ps3, the cell and blu ray, have come down a lot as they are several years old now.

Firstly, the NES was manufactured - not just supported but ENTIRELY NEW SYSTEMS BUILT - from July 1983 through October 2003. That's a twenty year plan. Sort-of beats out the PS1 and PS2 combined, doesn't it?

Secondly, of all the games coming out for the PS2, how many are first-party? How about third-party? Your answers are going to be "zero" and "all of them". Looks like it's not Sony that's making the PS2's lifespan last.

The wii is 100% compatible with everything released for the cube and the 360 maintains some sort of bc. The ps2 is still on the market because sony gutted the bc on the ps3 - and the only reason they did this is because if they lost ps2 hardware margins the division would be in the gutter, financially speaking.

How many xbox and cube games have come out recently for people who haven't bought into the next gen systems yet....

That support has nothing to do with sony's wishes but rather a consecuence of ps2's success. The only current-gen console who might reach such heights to provide a long tail for users is the wii.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

I can think of one first party off the top of my head, mlb 08, I would assume nba 08.

They got the contract to have those firstparty? Meh.

Point still stands. Those are mediocre casual titles that are just altered versions of the previous year's games. Sports titles like that never count.

Why do they need to talk about last generation to deffend themselves? How about talking some good about the PS3 currently agasint the Wii and Xbox 360?

There isn't anything good, really. There was, against the 360, for a while... but after E3, it looks like they don't have much to say.
