Forums - Nintendo - Super Metroid

Yep, one sweet, sweet game. I played it again about 2 years ago, the first time I'd touched it since it first was released, and enjoyed myself thoroughly. I really didn't expect it to be as awesome as it was the first time around, but Super Metroid charmed the pants off of me again. :)

Ok, So I put in another couple of hours today.

First off, I completely forgot that unlike the 1st metroid the energy tanks of this game are a full two rows! I only had half when I said I had them all above.

Well, I've gotten 3 more tanks (5 left) and 2 more reserves (1 left). A bunch of missiles and bombs etc. I have also gotten the spring ball and walked through about 2/3rds of Miridia and all I have left in Norfair is to beat Ridley. I need something to walk in lava, I think. idk, I'll figure it out after I finish of the boss and last couple of items in Miridia.

Should have no problem finishing it tomorrow night. Still a fantastic game, however, I think I figured out where all the backtracking originated. Damn sure is a lot more here that there was in the original. I never played Metroid II on the GB, was it the same or more like the original Metroid?

Metroid II was a class of its own and was a lot more linear.

But Super Metoid is one of the best games ever and is easily the best Metroid.

The game boy metroid from what I read felt a little cramped on the tiny screen of the original giant grey brick that was the game boy.  I can see now why Strongbad used his gameboy in his time portal/warp machine.

The game got good reviews, but if you played it today, I don't think it would of aged well.

Actually that game had a great feeling of exploration and adventure, having no map really meant you got personal with its surroundings, honestly I think its my second favorite metroid after super metroid of course.

I've beaten the game under 2 hours with 100% of the items.

I always thought they should remake Metroid II. Its so hard playing it on a tiny screen. Plus I liked the idea of the different types of metroids as you get further in the game. It was pretty linear like the other handheld offerings though.

I played Metroid II for the first time a few years ago and think it aged quite well. There is not a thing wrong with the controls. The graphics are very nice for a GB game, though I did play it with my GBA. The one problem I had with the game does relate to the graphics though. With the limited colors, limited detail to the levels, and lack of a map, it is easy to lose your way. I made it through the majority of the game on my own, but had to resort to a map to find out where the heck I hadn't been.

Other than that it was a blast. I really liked the concept of the game, which makes it unique among the Metroid games(to me).

I like Metroid II, it used the scare the crap out of me when they played that music and the metroids changed and came at you. But Super Metroid is on a whole other level.

Just beat the ghost guy in the wrecked ship myself and I have to say I'm loving this game. Makes me regret that I didn't put more effort into finishing it when I got stuck really early in the game as a kid.
