Forums - Nintendo - Do you think The Conduit is carrying much 'responsibility' on its shoulders

The Conduit won't prove a thing. It's not showing to be inspired enough to generate outstanding sales. Due to lack of competition it might well sell 1-2m but that's really not saying much.

If a FPS sold on Wii like CoD4 or Halo 3 does on 360 then 3rd parties would stand up and take notice. The Conduit will likely be seen as a novelty - nothing more.

When you think about the cost of Conduit being less compared to FPS games on Xbox 360 and PS3, selling as much as Metroid Prime 3 or as much as 2m will prove something and it will spawn a sequel to Conduit and maybe get more studios/publishers try to do their own Wii exclusive FPS games.

I think that it doesn't carry much responsibility at all. The Conduit is in a win/win situation. If it doesn't sell well then that's fine because it's made by a small developer. If it does then it's a great success story. I think that more responsibility is on the shoulders of Call of Duty 5. If that doesn't sell well than no one will ever want to make a FPS for the Wii.

Why would need Call of Duty 4 numbers from the get go? I mean it's the first of the seies not many games get 6million + on thier first entry on the series anymore. I truly think people would take notice with about 2million+.That should get the mature title game flood started.

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

The Conduit is only carrying as much responsibility as High Voltage has given it.
"We are pushing the technical limits on the Wii"
"We are developing from the ground up for the Wii"
They are pushing these two points to a market that currently has very few games of this genre, or even this kind of appeal.
Of course, High Voltage has chosen to market TC based on these two points, and thus hyping the game up quite a bit (because a lot of Wii owners with core interests a lacking a game like this).
They could also have taken the quite way, and said nothing about the game and just rolled it out without any real marketing.
So even if it does sell good on the Wii, and 'proves' that there is a market for this, then you have to remember that this game came out in a period with a market in demand. If the market becomes saturated, the situation will change.

I consider myself pretty "hardcore" and I have never even heard of this game until yesterday when I saw it in a thread title. How did medal of honor heroes do on wii? It will probably have 50-75% of the sales that medal of honor did, since the conduit doesn't have brand recognition.

The conduit is looking to be a much better game that Medal of Honor. On the wii brand recognition doesn't mean too much. Especially for franchises like medal of honor that rarely came to the wii last gen. The conduit already seemed to generate alot more hype than MoHH2 ever did.

Really. You haven't heard about it until yesterday. It's been getting hyped up quite a bit. I think this will do better than MOHH2. It "looks" a lot better. If it controls like the MOH game then it will be huge. The Wii needs a game like this and there is a group of Wii owners that will buy it if it's any good.

I am looking forward to THE CONDUIT, but it's hype is more "Snakes on a Plane" type hype than hype in the general market.

I hope it does well, but "well" is probably 250,000 in North America.

I think that this game looks like it is going to live up to the hype in terms of gameplay, visuals, and story. It really looks like this game will be quality work.

What I'm worried about is how this game will sell. It seems like most people are expecting this to be a huge success because of the drought of mature FPSs for the Wii. If its not, I'm worried that publishers are going to see this as a sign that mature games just can't be done on the Wii due to the audience. I really think that publishers are actively seeking a reason not to support the Wii with quality titles. I don't really have evidence of that, but it's just a feeling I get.

I just wanted to add that:

MoH games haven't sold very well recently, Wii version was about on par with the other ones.  People just aren't excited for that series any more.

I look at it this way there are a million people who bought Red Steel, that had crappy reviews and bad word of mouth.

6 Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 Electronic Arts 0.22m
7 Medal of Honor: Airborne Electronic Arts 0.17m

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
