Forums - Nintendo - Dead Rising Wii - A lackluster port

OK, let's for the sake of your argument assume that at this current stage in development, it only supports  a dozen enemies on screen at once.  But, can we be certain that we will be limited to what we see in this very early build come launch?   Certainly titles can get better with development, can they not?

An example.

The Conduit announced:

The Conduit as of a few weeks ago:

So if, IF, the current build is just running with a dozen enemies it's quite possible they are just base testing models and not resepctive of the final product.

the only thing that have good graphics is the enemies & the gun ... the overall world have a blurry crapy graphics.

I'm basing my opinion on what actually exists and what Capcom themselves have shown so far, everyone else is basing their opinion on speculation and what's happened to other games. If the screenshots aren't representative of what the final game will turn out like then it's Capcom's fault for showing them and my choice whether I criticise them for doing so.

I'm not asking for this game to be at the level that the 360 version was, I'm asking for it to look better than some random shovelware game and to have more enemies than a Dynasty Warriors game from a previous generation. Nothing I've seen has convinced me that way so far.

And just how often are early alpha-level screenshots ever representative of a final product?  Perhaps you remember seeing Link standing over an open treasure chest with the triforce glowing in front of him from Ocarina of Time?  That wasn't representative of the final product and there was nowhere (outside of hacking) where you'd see that in-game.  Remember those awful screenshots of Metroid IV that appeared 6 - 12 months before it came out?

Capcom handed out images of a game that is clearly unfinished for a variety of reasons.  First off, to show how it's coming along.  They know that the pictures are rough around the edges--this is just where they are "so far" on the game.  Look at it for fuck sakes:  No work has yet been done on the lighting, and the shadows are still in early form.  Look at how The Conduit evolved.  They released sample screenshots to show their direction, then look at how it is now.  It grew up and it grew up fast.  What do you think Capcom is doing over the next several months before Dead Rising comes out?  Sitting on the damn thing?  They're going to continue to work on it--including the graphics, lighting, poly count, textures, sound, control, camera, bonus features, number of on-screen zombies/characters.  Secondly, announcing a new game or a newly revamped port is always best with some included screenshots.

If these images were of the final product, they'd just release the damn thing next month and call it good.  They'll be some definite improvement between now and when the game actually comes out.  They're pretty much always is.  Hence the many long months of development time between now and it's launch date.

Capcom sure loves porting games...RE4, Okami, RE0 and now Dead Rising to the Wii, Lost Planet to the PS3...anything else?

Only a complete idiot would dismiss a game based on a couple of extremely early screenshots of a title--a game not slated for release for several months.

Also, this idea that the Xbox360 game had "hundreds" of zombies onscreen is gross exaggeration. The number of zombies onscreen at any one time never went higher than double-digits, and even then, I have doubts about how often it exceeded 50--if at all. When you see a bunch of characters moving around onscreen at once and you're running around trying to accomplish something, 20 - 40 zombies in a cramped room can sure feel like a hundred. Only in early promo shots was there ever "hundreds" of zombies visible at once.

Dead Rising was originally an Xbox game after all that got a mild graphical make-over prior to being moved to the Xbox360. They remove that make-over and it'll work quite well on the Wii. It's not like Capcom has failed us on Wii ports of games so far. RE4 and Okami both turned out well.

There were many times where there were hundreds of enemies onscreen--hell, if you went into the underground parking lot the game literally rendered thousands of enemies at once (with several hundred onscreen).

But, that said, I think the Wii can pull it off with the proper optimization.  I do think it'll have longer load times than the 360 game, but what can you do?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Sure is alot of Wii hate threads after E3. I missed the days when the HD fanboys just ignored the Wii. I guess hardcore titles like the Conduit and Dead Rising have them worried though. Sigh...

I don't hate the Wii at all, in fact it is probably my favourite console, if not for the games but for the hardware. Why is it that whenever someone criticises a game it quickly turns into an argument with people screaming 'fanboy' or 'troll' at each other? It's not possible to discuss anything reasonably on this site though, admittedly, the sales wars is an environment which breeds this kind of person.

And if they can fix the enemies in just a few months, don't you think they could fix the environments in the remaining 9 months of development?

Besides, HSV already stated those are mostly place holder textures.

Not that I don't believe you, but do you have a link for that?

I want to know more about what they plan on doing about the textures.
