Forums - Nintendo - 3rd party publishers feels about the conduit... very very sad :(

There will be enough 3-Party that will make a lot of money with quality wii software

Around the Network

As a guess, this is (probably) a publisher that almost no one on this site owns a game that they published; and they could (quite possibly) have published several awful games for the Wii by now. Even the most anti-Wii "good" publisher knows that (at least) 10% of Wii owners want a game like this, and the low development costs and lack of competition would translate to this game being very profitable.

A good developer will pick the Conduit up. There is an awful lot of hype surrounding it and someone will pick it up because it looks like it could make some money.

Well it's not Ubi, EA, or Acti. They would want $49.99 out of the Conduit. It would have to be a shovelware company that mostly puts out $20 games.

BAM! There it is!

I think that's one of those publishers with major losses.
Really if the industry dies in the coming years they only have themselves to blame.

What? Industry will die if 3rd party keep ignoring Wii?

Essentially yes.

The development budgets of the HD games are insane and pretty much unsustainable. Last year the average loss of a game developer was $200 million, mind you: in an absolute record breaking year for the video game industry. Something's going wrong here.

Metal Gear Solid is a game that usually should be able to keep Konami happy for about a year, because it's their #1 franchise. Right now it's doubtful it even made a profit. Be aware that a title of that magnitude needs a very high return on investment.

And that's an AAA title. Ask the guys behind stranglehold if they like the current budgets that are needed to make a PS360 game. Hell even Sony itself is suffering from their own leap forward. Their userbase is far to small to allow for several mega projects.

All this wouldn't have been a problem if HD gaming really took off, but at the moment it doesn't look like that will happen. If these companies keep ignoring Wii they're bound to suffer major losses. Wii will have around 50% marketshare in December and around 45 million consoles, yet a lot of developers don't want to develop for it, for reasons I don't understand.

@HappySqurriel: If this is the case i think it is, Matt mentioned the publisher being a major publisher. I think we had a topic about it in the winter.
