The thing about rumours is very rarely if ever do they come from the Japanese. Because this is a Japanese person on a Jap site, adds more validity for me. Interesting. We already new the cell was horrible for games anyway.

The reality of the PS3 hardware is well known despite what anyone believes to the contrary. The design is obviously not friendly for developers, and more then a couple developers have confessed to this. This has often enough lead to game delays, and other convolutions such as obscene install downloads for the console. This is just common knowledge at this point. This is not a rumor it is more a statement of fact.

Beyond this the rumor brings to light a very interesting possibility. The rumor insinuates that Sony and Square had a contract in place for Final Fantasy. Which was suspected but never confirmed. However if Microsoft paid for breach of contract or in other words paid the penalty clause then Sony may no longer have any protection for title retention period.

Sony could very well lose the title for their platform all that is required is for Microsoft to offer a lucrative enough sum to Square. Which may very well be their intentions for the Tokyo Game Show. Imagine the tumult that this title losing exclusivity caused. Now image the insanity of biblical proportions that the title going exclusively for the 360 might very well cause. For propaganda value Microsoft might consider doing just that. After all I am sure any breach provision would have already cost them a pretty penny.

What others forget about rumors beyond the fact that they are occasionally correct is the following. A rumor being fictitious does not necessarily mean that it will result in being wrong. A good hoaxer knows that the secret to success is not to say any old thing to get a rise out of others. A good hoaxer uses a great deal of deductive reasoning to formulate their rumor. Not only is it more reasonable, but also that much more likely to happen.

Anyway it frames the events in a way I had not considered. Which means it was a good read.

I'll put this in the rumor pile but........

You have no idea what developers actually discuss in their meetings, or understand video game company messaging. It's exactly along the lines they provided. A development team does have the autonomy to say that a company, or product sucks, and that it can be advantageous to move to another company. Again, I know this since I work for a video game company. Stuff like this does happen.

Some of the rumors are grounded in reality:

• PS3 development/port translation issues (The Last Remnant)
• No actual confirmed launch date for TLR on PS3, but on X360.
• Actual definition on what MS paid for the XIII agreement.

But again, it could be rumor. 2Chan has had a lot of crazy, true things on it before. Nevertheless, lets wait and see.

Why would SE keep games like FFXIII Versus and maybe a FFVII remake exclusive to the PS3?
