Forums - Microsoft - Do You Think Final Fantasy Thirteen Can Help Increase Sales of Lost Odyssey

The logic would be:   Name recognition sells games.  Therefore, attracting a large number of users who might want to play similar games.

Thoughts?

No, LO will be too old of a game by the time its released. It would be like trying to sell PD0 or COD 2 right now. LO will be in the bargain bin by then but it will have a nice Christmas boost this year.

Okay, this one should stay open.

Even though it's not exclusive, I think Final Fantasy XIII can act as a centerpiece for the rest of Square's 360 games and all the Mistwalker games. So hopefully some JRPG fans will be persuaded to take a ride on the Xbox side.

I also think it will help considerably if XIII can get a release on 360 in Japan, even a delayed release. Although Lost Odyssey will almost definitely not be the most recent Mistwalker game by the time XIII finally hits...

Sales of older games like Halo and GTA always spike when the newer ones come out, so its not impossible to imagine LO would sell some more units. But by the time FF13 comes out on the 360 it will be 2010, and LO will be really old by then, plus SE/tri-ace will have 3 other RPGs on the 360 by the time FF13 comes out.

Well, it's not going to hurt, thats for sure.

At any rate, I'm sure it will.

But in the shorter term, ToV and IU should help LO sales more than XIII, possibly.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I think with the announcement that FFXIII will also be on the 360, I think the sales of 360 JRPGs in general will benefit.

Not quite.  The shooter genre is hopelessly overcrowded.  That's why old shooters don't sell at all--there's always some great new one around the corner.  The 360, which is the supposed JRPG king this generation, gets one new JRPG every few months.

I could see LO getting a very small boost, but FFXIII won't be released for at least a year.  THere'll be other games, such as Tales of Versperia and Last Remnant, that will likely benefit much more.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Maybe it will but it will be little.
