Forums - Gaming - Confused gamer: Why is one of these situations better than the other?

Speaking for myself only, my problem with Nintendo's E3 wasn't their content (which I like) but their execution. I tune in to E3 to see games, or at least hear about them.

What we got was a conference in which half the time was spent lecturing us and patting themselves on the back (they should learn what every 13-year old already knows: if you're going to jack off, do it in private, because the rest of us really don't want to see it). The roundtable last night was better, since it was just about games. I'm hoping we see more of the latter, and that the former never happens again.

Wii sports Resort isn't coming out to 09.

Neither is FFXIII, Resi 5, and Star Ocean 4.

DC Universe, MAG, God of War III, inFAMOUS, and Killzone 2 coming out in 09. But Sony showed DC universe, inFAMOUS and Killzone 2. So they don't really count.

The rest that Sony showed was 08.

Again, bull.  GoW3 is not coming on 09.   Not a chance.  If it was, again it would have been in the trailer.  The only time Sony gave a release date for GoW3 was on the show floor while be being pressured by press.

God of War was released on March 22, 2005 in North America.

God of War II was released on March 13, 2007 in North America.

Unless the progression changes, we can expect God of War III in March of 2009.

I should look to see when all of those games were revealed....see how long the wait usually is for GoW.

...

My only issue with Nintendo's was that, based on their mentality of not showing until it's almost ready to ship means that we're a while away from seeing anything "core" (mario/zelda/metroid) any time soon.

Fact that reggie had to make the point of saying those teams are working shows that Nintendo is still struggling to secure their core gamers, if they have to go as far as to break their no kiss and tell before the show ideal they've carried for so long. It's not a big issue, but I guess it's the first sign that there is an issue when Miyamoto, who's famous for introducing/demo-ing his choice of game (which is usually a big revelation/hit), chooses wii-music as the game he demo's.

I liked wii sports, I think wii balance board has great potential, but wii-music? now you've lost me.

That completely ignores unfamiliar hardware and extended development time for high definition games.

Using PS2 schedules is a bad way to try to predict PS3 releases.

I tried that in another thread but people said no because of developing on the PS3.

The fact of the matter is that all three companies did it, not just Sony.

But gamers like it.....Check Nintendo's conference 2004 with the Zelda announcement. And I myself prefer also teasers then just we were working on it =/.

So, there have been a lot of people pissed off at Nintendo for not showing much for the "hardcore" gamer at their E3 press conference. While I wasn't to bothered by it, I know I'm in a minority with my odd gaming tastes (biggest announcements for me were Quest for Booty and Animal Crossing if that tells you something). However, I'm quite confused as to how these two situations are so different...

Nintendo announced Pikmin and Zelda were in production at E3 as well as commented that Mario and Metroid teams were working on new core games. They gave no information past this. Reggie mentioned they had no intention of showing off these games till they had something substantial to show. This is how Nintendo has operated for the last 4 years. They don't announce anything till they have gameplay to show. All we know is these games are coming at some point.

Sony and Square Enix showed off two very nice CGI trailers this year at E3. Sony showed of God of War III with no gameplay or info on the game, and Square Enix showed off FFXIII once again with no gameplay or info on the game. Neither of these games even have set release years, but apparently 30 second to 1 minute CGI trailers are better than a vocal announcement that the game is coming.

FFXIII is starting to push 2011 in North America, and I'd bet my recently acquired PS3 that I see Pikmin on my Wii before I see FFXIII on my PS3. God of War III is at least 2010, if we are lucky. What's so different about these two situations. Why is one of these great for the fans, and the other total crap?

Personally, I don't like being hyped for a game 2 years before the first gameplay videos... or 3 in FFXIII's case. I'm not saying either situation is great... neither one shows me anything I have to look forward to in the near future, but I don't see why one is better than the other. Anyone else feel this way?

Well GoW3 has a good chance at being released in 09 , so is MAG , KZ2 , FFXIII ( Japan ) , Resistance Retribution . Other than that Motorstorm 2 , Resistance 2 , LBP , LocoRoco 2 , Patapon 2 , Super Stardust Portable , Fat Princes all of these are released in 08 ... so dont even think to compare this lineup with Nintendos Wii Music ( 08 ) , Wii Sports 2  ( 09 ) , GTA DS ( ??? ) , Shaun W Snowboarding ( lol what a presentation ) and ( the better one lets be honest ) Animal Crossing Wii ( 08 ) . Yes they did have some 3rd party multiplayforms to ( CoD5 ) and SWS is multiplatform to , but common ...

And the new motion sensitive add-on doesnt adds to it neither ...

Maybe this is a new concept to you, but the size of development teams and the timeline of development grew dramatically between the PS2 and PS3 ...

Well combine the fact that they hadn't announced any games since Mario Kart (which was almost a year ago) and the fact that they had absolutely nothing announced for the rest of 08, can't you see why people were expecting something big?
That's all I've been hearing the last few months. "You really think Nintendo has nothing up it's sleeve? Wait til e3"

Well e3's over now and we've got...Animal Crossing (which I'm actually pretty excited about... but generally speaking, no one else really seems to care)

Plus their conference was a total joke. An embarrassment.

I love my Wii but in as far as games go, it's really falling behind the pack.
