Forums - Gaming - Just Like Crack: I'm Off Achievements

"The worse part, is that the games I did enjoy - I ruined."

The thing is, that's the point. Achievements exist so that you overplay the game to death as quickly as possible, get bored from the overplay, and run out to buy new games for MOAR POINTZ. Replay isn't profitable, and Achievements are the cure.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

Be the ultimate ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today! Poisson Village welcomes new players.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I did all the side missions in AC just for the achievement.

I threw old ladies around in AC for an achievement.

I replayed missions on splinter cell hundreds of times for achievements (getting spotted).

I almost bought King Kong and avatar for achievements.

I bought Bejeweled 2 thinking it would be an easy 50-100 points within a few hours.

I soon discovered, after several hours of play, I couldn't unlock anything.

I spent the night crying in bed.

Oh my god.

You're joking right?

If not, I'm crying for you :'(

And also I read somewhere (don't ask me for a link because I don't remember) that there are rumors that trophies might actually be rewarding, as in you might get something for getting to a certain level, like maybe a free movie download or something, remember rumor and I might just be talking out of my ass.

If you were addicted then you'd be insanely addicted now. Really, go see a doctor.

Please don't let that be true. I don't want to be the guy who has to get the 'Played Haze for 5 Continuous Minutes' platinum trophy for an episode of Robot Chicken.

I'll show you my gamercard.

Bejeweled 2 = 0 Achievements

Damn.

I'm done with achievements though.

It takes the fun away from the game.

7 Day survivor achievement for dead rising was great, because your health was always depleting you had to constantly keep an eye on frank west and give him food every 15 minutes to ensure he stayed alive.... good times.... it took 18 hours though.... i started on it at 8am saturday and finished around 2.15am sunday.... once i was stocked up on food for frank i just set my alarm every 14 minutes to remind myself to feed the begger lol...... no way i could have stayed glued to the screen for 18 hours so took the occasional 30 minute break to keep my sanity......., in essence it was more of a test of your own self endurance lol.... mind you, it wasn't all bad, got the zombie genocider, indoorsman and outdoorsman achievements too....... so, 18 hours playing a game for 80 achievement points..... was it worth it? hell yeah lol

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Well, not necessarily. How many people are going to rush through 7+ plays through Ninja Gaiden II just for the points? That encourages replay, IMO. Although I suppose that you have a point in that, if you went for 100% completion in a week or two, you'd never want to play it again. But I don't think many people are THAT hardcore of completionists.
