The thing is, that's the point. Achievements exist so that you overplay the game to death as quickly as possible, get bored from the overplay, and run out to buy new games for MOAR POINTZ. Replay isn't profitable, and Achievements are the cure.

Well, not necessarily. How many people are going to rush through 7+ plays through Ninja Gaiden II just for the points? That encourages replay, IMO. Although I suppose that you have a point in that, if you went for 100% completion in a week or two, you'd never want to play it again. But I don't think many people are THAT hardcore of completionists.
