Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's Wii Is the Best Product Ever

If this trend continues yes the wii can be the best selling product ever, but I dont really think it will last too long since most people interested in the nintendo wii are younger gamers not much hardcore gamers which is what sony and microsoft is trying to attract with there consoles.
*groans* how many times must this be said. stop stereotyping. yes kids play with the Wii console but they also do with Xbox 360s and PS3s, too. Nintendo has stated that it is trying to expand the market this time around and it is working. Kids, adults, seniors, casuals, hardcore-whatever, it appeals to everyone except perhaps the hardest of the hardcores. that's why it's at 8 mil already if VG is accurate but according to other sources, it is at the number. 2-appealing to hardcores only is not what Microsoft and Sony is after, if they did, the consoles would not sell in large numbers. PS2 owners were largely casuals. Sony and Microsoft wants as much people as possible to buy their products, including but not limited to the hardcores. Please get your butt out of your head.

i lost pc gaming time due to DS. I blame Nintendo.

Although there are already games that the PS3 can't handle in development, such as Crysis, and the PS3 already been surpassed by top end PCs, I can totally imagine someone feeling the PS3 has encroached on the PC's territory in some vague way, even if the PC can do a few things the PS3 can't. PC Gamers need someone to blame for the declining popularity, and the PS3 makes a nice scapegoat :p

I wouldn't say Crysis isn't possible on the PS3. Although I think it's very likely an identical game engine wouldn't work well on the PS3. IMO we haven't seen anything yet of what the PS3 is capable of technically, even with  impressive launch titles like Resistance (without framedrops during very heavy fighting) and Motorstorm (solid framerates in IMO the most impressive racing game I've ever played) developers are only scratching the surface.

Years before the PS3's release I already predicted a learning curve for developers and predicted some time before developers would really start using the true benefits (SPEs) of the cell processor.

The developers of Crysis, Crytek, have specifically said that Crysis isn't possible on the PS3 or Xbox360, at least in a fully optimized form. Obviously, the game could be toned down some, but a full version is only possible on high end PCs. Quad Cores only, basically.

They say this directly and unequivocably around 9:40 in:

Please note that I'm basically agreeing with you -- while there may be some things that a PC can do that a PS3 can't (such as Crysis), there aren't many, and a PS3 is much cheaper and more popular, with a wider variety of games. The justification for choosing a PC as your gaming platform becomes slimmer every year.

Not with an identical game engine, with a PS3 specific game engine IMO the game can even be greatly improved on.

Note that ID software also claimed Doom couldn't be done on the Amiga at all (granted its game engine approach wasn't very suitable for lowend Amigas), yet the moment Doom's source code was released the game was ported to Amiga specs I owned at the time of Doom's release. IMO take such comments with a grain of salt. (Needless to say ID Software's Quake eventually also got officially ported by Clickboom to 68k Amiga configs available at the time of Doom's release).

I remember telling some people that the Amiga was a lot more powerful in the good old days. They wouldn't believe me as some early games ran better on the Atari ST. They would never believe something like this would be technically possible on a lowend Amiga 500 at the time (the early NES heydays):

Lion Heart video

Disposable Hero

And I'd say you're engaging in wishful thinking. You can name one game that ended up being succesfully ported -- it's a famous one, at that. I can name dozens that claimed they couldn't be ported... and they couldn't.

Tie Fighter
Dark Forces
World of Warcraft
Starcraft

And so on. I'm not sure why this bothers you so much. Crytek is considered one of the leading developers of graphics engines in the industry; they say it's not possible. Just watch the video.

The Crytek 2 engine is lisencable for the PS3/360, by the way, so they do feel the engine can be run on the platforms, just not Crysis specifically. Again, I'm largely agreeing with you, but if you're going to insist on pushing the "Crysis can run on the PS3!" topic, I'm going to show you that all evidence suggests that you're wrong. The PS3 can do a lot of amazing things with graphics, no question; I'm not sure why it's such a big deal that there is a single game I can name that it can't handle.

Actually, the PS3 is literally curing cancer with the folding@home software on the PS3.

Lies! The PS3 gave me cancer.  I was a bum living on the street till I bought a Wii.   Now I fly to work in my private Helicopter!  Call 1-800-IRIDIOT to find out how!

Really though the article is too biased to be taken seriously.  I love my Wii, but come on.

I agree. I actually expected to read an article about sales, indicating that no product in its price range has ever sold as well as the Wii, or something liek that. Instead it was just some guy who said: "Wow, I tried it, and it was awesome! But the PS3 stinks." Almost zero evidence to back his claims. Just his opinions.

It's contributing lol unlike any other gaming machine has in the past :P

hahaha, that's true :)

i did read that ps3 is contributing 50% of the computing power to the project, so it's definitely a good thing.

the Wii is an epidemic.

I expect backlash to this, but someone claiming the entire library of PS3 games current and future are crap is totally a valid point...

Nah... I'm here for a while and members know my preferences so most of Wii supporters will just ignore me... That was just an explosion.

@ Ray007

Nope. I didn't play. It's visual disappointment.

So your saying a game you havent played is crap because you dont like how it looks? Wow, that to me is just weird.
