Very glad to hear this! I hope Nintendo shows of this, Dead Rising, and a couple of first-party games at their 'secret' press conference.

It's a core game - this wont end well - but lets see.
Core audience markers (that may like FPS) since the wii started would go like this
Launch date - 2 million people
Red Steel - 1 million
Battalion Wars 2 - 800k
No More Heroes - 400k
Install Base is now about 27 million
It's safe to assume all those people who bought Wii's bought them to play video games. The point would be how many of those Wii owners know about "The Conduit", how many of them like FPS's, how many of them are interested in "The Conduit" and how many of them are on VGC.
Judging by how the internet crashed for a second for the FFXIII announcement I'd say that this game is getting the right ammount of publicity.
Microsoft forums didn't flood for Gears 2... though there are tuns of topics on it.
With the western hype for this game, it should hit at least 500k ltd in the US, which would more than likely cover development. Though this game will fail in Japan and others or just struggle - unless they can market it as fun then maybe the superficial American motif can be overlooked and Ford can be seen as an every mans man doing what he can to get the job done and done right.
Then again who can pass up 24 player online.
(Btw anything over 32 is overkill and hasn't been done right to my knowledge yet.)

Oh wait, I saw the E3 video and the textures looked amazing on the buildings and the street.

I'm going to put it very easy for you... do you remember all those threads about the power of the cell, the games ported from pc running on high thanks to the future proof of the system, all based just in promises???
Well, is similar to this, but in this case is not just based on promised, every dev can achieve a good graphics level on the Wii, because is a more simple architecture and still is more powerfull than the last gen systems... so far our expectation are not based on promises of full HD at 120 fps... thats why we are pissed of, because they are not aiming to something that can get on a easy way...
One side you have high budget project aimed to show off just graphics, and from this side, when you can get a good level of graphics too on a cheaper way and we have nothing, thats why we expect to this game show some good graphics...

A major reason to care about the graphics in The Conduit is that it's fully showing that the Wii is very capable of better-than-last-gen graphics and that there's simply no excuse for 3rd party devs (and Nintendo for that matter) for giving us games that barely look any better than a standard GC title.
It's pulling off graphical feats you'd be hard pressed to find on the original Xbox (except maybe for that port of Doom 3) with excellent bump mapping, lighting, shadows and richer colors than what's been seen so far--such as darker black color rather than that washed-out grayish black.
Whoever it was that wanted to turn The Conduit into a $20 piece of crap budget title, all I can say about them is, I hope they fucking die. That kind of attitude is one of the things hurting the video game industry.

Well think about it for a second: On a PC you don't need a bounding box because it's perfectly easy to just let your mouse sit still. It's not as easy to hold a Wiimote steady, so hence, the need for a bounding box. Also, if you're turning with the control stick, how do you strafe or look up or down? You'd need to assign an button(s) to hold down for strafing and that button could probably be used for something better, such as weapon switching, melee attack, etc. Using the Wiimote to turn and aim is the next logical step beyond dual-analog control. The Wiimote simply replaces the second analog stick for a more natural method. Using the control stick for turning and moving dates the controls back to Doom--a game where you didn't need to look up, down, or around you.
As for this GoNintendo article, it has me even more pumped for The Conduit. I just can't wait. It's going to kick so much ass. |
Sorry, I suppose I should have added the rest of my thoughts, I havetyped out my control scheme for an FPS before.... but basically:
The nunchuck control stick acts the same as the N64 one did for Goldeneye, you turn on the spot by pushing it left/right, and move backwards/forwards by pushing up/down.
The bounding box would still be there, so you could still turn the screen by pointing off to the left... but you wouldn't be restricted by it when you are running and shooting because you can turn with the stick.
Strafe you say? I say tilt the nunchuck... it is perfect for strafing, you might know what I mean if you have played SSX:Blur, it would be incredibly natural leaning your hand left and right to strafe.
Looking up and down would still be done by bounding box only, but in FPSs it is rare you need to look up or down with lightning speed like you need to turn around.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:
This information gets me rally hyped for the game.
It's a shame that a publisher wanted to downplay their efforts and make some budget titled trash heap of a game. They probably have a vendetta against Nintendo or something and only want to put trash on it.
The first company that came to mind when I read that was Ubisoft. I mean, they did publish Red Steel, so I see why High Voltage might want to go to them for publisher support. But I also know that if you were to look at their upcoming game lineup for the Wii, they are dedicated to putting titles of the lowest Caliber on the Wii. Compared to what they are doing for every other system, its a disgrace.
Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. " thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

If you check this thread you can work out a vague estimate for BWii in Europe.
The green numbers I have been working out are the number of gamers (on the nintendo channel) who own the game, it is worked out by dividing the total sessions by the sessions per user, which for BWii comes out to 7166.
Then we need a multiplier to find out a vague estimation of EU sales. BWii is pretty hardcore niche so I can use multipliers similar to Zack and Wiki or Metroid Prime.... Metroid Prime VGC sales are 16 times the green number in that thread, and although I haven't added it yet, Zack and Wiki is a multiplier of about 12.
So doing it in the middle of those two.... 14 X 7166 = 100,324 So BWii in Europe has sold approximately 100k, but it is very vague due to the multiplier (for all I know BWii could be more niche than Z&W... which would mean a multiplier of less than 12.
I think perhaps it will probably be around the same as in America, so about 90-100k (bringing WW total to about 240-250k)
