Forums - Gaming - No more Exclusives after this gen.

As both Microsoft and Sony lose more and more exclusives to each other, does anyone else think that after this generation of consoles, the only future exclusives will be in house productions? What are your thoughts because its happening. Right now I think Nintendo is best equipped for this scenario, then Sony in a close second, followed by Microsoft. Discuss

No , that will never happen . There will always be developers whom will somehow profit from exclusive games ...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Sony and ninty has their own exclusive studios

While MS is buying exclusive

It will not change during the NEXT gen

(maybe Google/Sony/Apple combo wil succeed to kill MS, who knows ?)

Time to Work !

If next gen Sony or MS kills off the other, there will be exclusives.

Never happen... you're living in a dream world as games become bigger budget more will go multiplatform. GTA, Saints Row, Bioshock, FF, etc etc. The list goes on.

If the next generation has 2 consoles with such similar capabilities and fanbases as the 360 and PS3 then yes, it will continue. It is almost never outright profitable to stay exclusive to one console unless you are getting a incentive from said console's manufacturer. It will only get worse (or better depending on your perspective) next generation where 2 more "just more powerful" consoles will be nearly identical from a gameplay standpoint (and lets be honest, the 360 and PS3 almost are already.) They will either need to go their own route, like Nintendo did this generation, or differentiate themselves with non-gaming capabilities, which won;t matter to game makers

I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.

I strive to improve my living conditions by hoarding gold, food, and sometimes keys and potions. I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You?

It will depend what the next machines will be.. if the next Xbox & Ps4 are almost the same in performance.. then yes.... why wouldn't developers bring them to both machines? They like the Money..

I pretty much agree, though wouldn't say Sony is a close second.

Microsoft, however, is a distant third.

if developement costs for next gen games increase again as much as they did with this gen jump then there will be no 3rd party developer risking a single platform strategy.

There won't be much of an industry at all if development costs increase at the same rate.  The business model is already unsustainable or close to it.
