Forums - Sony Discussion - the Blu-ray thread, will go on untill hddvds death.

MrMarc I don't have a HDTV but I sure do want one... Blu-Ray is one reason why I have held off on buying a cheap 720p set

I would not worry tht ps3 sales will slump anytime soon, summer is over... more importantly there are plenty of games now, no reason for a sales slump

Free Record Shop, the Netherlands's largest home entertainment retailer, has announced that they have officially endorsed Blu-ray as the successor to DVD. Since Blu-ray has launched in the Netherlands, it has outsold HD DVD on an average of 4-to-1, showing business owners that the buying public is demanding high definition content, and they want that content on Blu-ray.

Lipiniski Sound Corporation has announced that they will exclusively support Blu-ray with their full range of home theater equipment. Lipiniski is set to reveal their proprietary turn-key HD Surround Sound solution using a Sony BDP-S2000ES Blu-ray disc player. This system will vastly surpass the audio quality currently available on the market.
Lukas Lipinski, CEO of Lipinski Sound Corporation commented, "The audio industry is emerging from its trough. The adoption of high-resolution video demands audio production follow. With the rise of HDTV and Blu-ray, customers are demanding higher quality in audio."

So every week, two companies, not everyone has heard of, start supporting blu-ray, while market growth is still as slow as ever. Blu-ray can still win, but please give REAL REASONS it will, preferably from OBJECTIVE sites?

ok, but i'm going to counter that the company that I listed is like BB in the netherlands, it is the biggest electronics retailer, so perhaps you haven't heard about it, but it is a move of pure of ignorance to try to imply that the effect that it has is immaterial.

Highdefdigest.com lists about 120 Blu-ray movies being released for the rest of the year, versus about 68 HD-DVD movies.  From an objective standpoint, it looks like HD-DVD has a harder time putting out  high-def movies that would make $$$

I wrote "not everyone", not "is immaterial".

Number of films is what the list objectively shows, not who has an esier time putting out profitable releases, as you can't predict evertying that will be profitable.

Here LordTheNightKnight, now you can add a low-cost BD reader drive to your PC in early 08. Sony is planning on producing a BD-R drive for a price below $200. The best price that you can get is about $300 ish right now for BD-R drives but this is a lot better for BD b/c it makes the $170 HD-DVD add-on for the 360 or PC, seem to be not nearly as good of a deal as before when it was the only cheap high-def reader around.

Enjoy :)

Not as good, yes, but that doesn't devalue the 360 drive. It just makes more value for blu-ray.

BTW, the low price may be selling at a loss. I'm not sure if it was you, but a lot of others were bashing Toshiba for doing the same. This is a business, and getting mass market prices for both systems can only help them right now.

I don't know about the US, but in Europe there's a HD DVD ROM drive already available from Toshiba for €99:
