Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo and Sony won't touch Manhunt 2 with AO rating

That is different from Sony America and Nintendo America.

Perhaps they just need to clip a cutscene, or put proper clothes on a model. Often its a fairly minor issue that pushes ratings groups to make a title 'AO' or 'X' (if its a movie).

Its not like the game is a porno. It may well be, hell its even likely, that it would take a fairly small issue to get it back down to M.

Look at the GTA 'hot coffee' incident. Its not like the whole game was a problem, just one scene/mini-game.

There's no question the whole game deserves an M, but the AO content is probably pretty minor.

I don't think it's very minor. I don't think ripping someones balls off, jabbing a pen through someones eye, slitting a stomach open and watching organs pile out is very minor. I think they are going to have to do some major censoring to get this down to M.

Then again, it can be something relatively minor that gets the rating. Say, for instance, you are developing a game set in medieval times and one of your cut-scenes revolve around a troop of soldiers gathered by a campfire, sitting down and enjoying some grog while talking about battle plans. The grog-drinking alone is enough to get you a Teen rating - "use of alcohol".

correct me if im wrong but in japan they sell porn games that would be considered AO.. at least for ps2.. are they not licensed or something?.. just a thouight

Different strokes for different folks - Japan have a far more casual attitude towards adult content than the US - and I can't emphasize enough the "far more". It's simply not an issue there. Japan is a country where children and adults alike can be seen on public transport reading the very same manga issue where one story may be talking about the trials and tribulations of a baseball game and the very next story involves aliens with tentacles raping the hell out of prepubescent girls.

True That. Touch Girls DS FTW!!!!

I just read this story. Crazy. I bet Vex984 is right. It's probably some minor stuff they can cut out and be done with it. An AO rating is just crazy, must be pretty bad. I wouldn't have bought this game myself, but am very interested in the whole story and will follow with a close eye.

Exactly. This is a console game not a PC game and specifically it was gonna be even better than normal on the Wii cause of the controls.

Anyway, Rockstar will modify the game now I'm sure so it might be delayed or something. They got a lot of freee publicity out of it and now they just change the game and get it released later. It's gonna come out on consoles, it's not gonna go to PC only or something...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I don't hate or despise Gballzack. I don't hate or despise anyone here, though that does not mean I don't aspire to.

Why cause people don't think as narrowly and stupidly as you? Cause they don't think in game violence is such a big deal? Cause you know America will never recover from a Manhunt AO release...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I think it's a great news for R* the hype for this game is touching the ceiling... now they just have to bribe a couple of ESRB officers or whatever they are... and say... "well they were wrong... and now we are selling this game that it's rated af M but it's really a AO game..." and it would sell millions just for people's curiosity of seeing why the game was rated AO... and then later rated M for an unknown reason ( to then because we know about the bribe)

Are you are talking about the AO formerly PC porn game going onto PS2? If that's what you mean, the porn contents on these game have been removed when they get ported onto PS2, and all such game ported are usually dating sims which have little to no porn to begin with.
