Forums - Microsoft - Looking at Final Fantasy XIII's importance on a regional basis.

This the exact opposite of damage control. Exaggeration.

Starcraft, bring it in for a second. The last final fantasy has 2.5 mil in Japan, less than a mil in others, and 2 mil in America. So all of the Japanese sales will be on the PS3. Others will see PS3 ahead of 360 much like DMC 4 and GTA IV, and American sales will likely see a split in sales.

Yet most sony fanboys claimed FFX was the more important paralel for sales.

Really it's in the middle.

FF can only sell so many copies in japan.

If it sells closer to 5 million.  Japan will be the most important region.

If it sells closer to 10 million.  Japan will be the least important region.

Either way, sony would of rather had exclusivity in the US or Europe... cause they would win FF13 sales in Japan by huge margins anwyay.  I couldn't see it moving many 360s.

Exactly.  It's in the middle.  That's basically what my thread was about.  It's a huge win for MS, but it's not so big as Starcraft is making it out to be.

That depends.  For Microsoft, this will be a large win, for Sony this will be a large loss.  On a two party basis, I'd say that adds up to an insane advantage for Microsoft based on this news.

The majority of MGS sales are also in the west. But where did it move more consoles? Japan.

well alot of people that wanted it already had it

And alot of people that want FFXIII already have a PS3...

Yes and no ...

A large portion of people who bought a PS3 to date do want Final Fantasy XIII being that they were likely to have owned a PS2 in the past and played most of the big games for that system.

There are (probably) quite a few people out there who were on the fence about buying a PS3 or XBox 360 and haven't bought one yet because they didn't have enough money or they were waiting for their favourite games to get closer to release. By Microsoft securing Final Fantasy XIII they have taken the game out of the equation for a lot of people which could result in a slight improvement in the sales of the XBox 360 at the expense of the PS3 ...

i wonder if this will now outsell all previous FF's

Also it is very unclear whether this will come out for the 360 at the same time in NA/EU as the PS3 version.

Thats not unclear at all.  Microsoft very clearly and repeatedely stated it would be day and date.

But then later on a SE blog, they said it was uncertain whether it will come out on PS3 and 360 at the same time. Although it could just be an error, it is still very confusing.

^it will be released on ps3 first in japan then the other territories it will be released on the same time

There was nothing confusing about Microsoft's press release just then.  Check the news section.

The uncertainty was about NA and EU release together or not because of languages.

Sigh.

First, the PS3 version will come out only in Japan, only with Japanese text and voices. (They are not really considering a 360 version because of install base in Japan but they didnt outrightly deny this though).

Then later, the PS3/360 version will come out SIMULTANEOUSLY in NA with English text and voices.

Then even later, the PS3/360 version will come out SIMULATANEOUSLY in EU with EU text and voices. And SE is trying to get this as close to NA release as possible.

Still don't understand how this is as big a thing as you're making it out to be.  It's good for MS, it's an advantage.  But it's not coming to Japan, and PS3 owners are still getting it.  It's big for a potential 360 owner or potential PS3 owner but for current owners it doesn't matter.  And in the grand scope of sales, PS3 sales will be > than 360 sales.

But then they seemed to contradict that later on in a blog. Which is why I said it was unclear at the moment. Plus now it seems to only be English speaking countries only. So maybe not mainland Europe.
