No, that's not what I meant.

Care to explain what you would see as catastrophic events in the industry then?

Well Ok I'll try. What I mean is something no one anywhere could have seen coming. Something outside the realms of the industry it's self that impacts a company or the industry as a whole it's self. Something that has abosoultely nothing to do with the gaming industry but impacts it none-the-less.

Oh like say erm, Sony and it's business partners bank accounts got hacked and looted rendering the company as a whole mute; a trade or world war that caught fire quickly and ravaged the world within weeks like WW1 or something just out right crazy that neitther Sony, any other company or any analyst period, could have ever forseen. That's what I'm talking about.

No dude, not brave at all. Brave would mean me sticking my neck on the line in belief that it won't be hacked off. I'm afraid I'm not so brave at all. My statements don't come from some act of bravado but just a pattern I see plain as day that others, oddly enough, don't see.

See, there are people that make a good living from watching patterns develop in varied industrial fields. These guys (if they're good) can see + or - patterns and inform their clients on their findings. Some are very good at it and see these patterns plain as day, others are OK at it but most people really suck at it thus the need for financial industry analysts.

I wish I could lead you to believe I have gonads of a Bull but in actuality it's just that I see clear as day. Unles something catastrophic happens in the industry, Sony's console will be on top for this gen yet again. The only difference I see is the Nintendo beating out MCs console this time round.

First off financial industry analysts, are all almost complete morons. In fact anyone who predicts anything about the future is shockingly almost always wrong. Because they really can't tell the future, they take certain elements of the past and go on that, but every market is always changing so there really is no pattern. For example you don't seem to give an example of this pattern or trend, other then the ps1 and ps2 being successful, which it seems all the elements that were in place for both of those systems are no longer in place. Price/PR/ Initial Sales/Competition/Launchs times of other systems/3rd Party support and various other odds and ends, all don't fit any pattern. They are all different from the ps1, and ps2. So until you explain this pattern, you'll have to admit there is none. The only pattern I can tell is that it's an advanced multi-media device with the backing of the Sony name, which follows suit more along the PSP then any other system in History, and the Wii is following suit with the DS closer to any other system in history, that's the pattern, their approach/PR/inital sales and everything follows that pattern. So there seems to be no reason in my opinion to think that they won't end up selling like their handheld counterparts. I think the one thing that bothers me about your reasoning is you insist your aware of things no one else is aware of but don't care to discuss them or adress other peoples valid points.

This thread is becoming unreadable.

Chubear, is there any particular reason you are posting in bold? It really is annoying. You can predict Sony becoming as profitable as Microsoft if you wish, but please turn the bold off. Please? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

Catastrophic like:

  • $600 price point
  • Fading interest and faith in the playstation brand
  • Bluray doesn't become the successor of the DVD
  • Shrinking exclusive 3rd party support
  • Shrinking 3rd party support
  • Japan is lost to Nintendo right from the beginning
  • America is lost to Microsoft and Nintendo right from the beginning
  • Europe is lost to Nintendo right from the beginning
  • being outsold weekly worldwide by the 360 and Wii on a constant basis
  • delayed 1st/2nd party games
  • Games that don't live up to the hype their trailers created
  • Bad PR
  • Total loss of appeal to casual gamers
Just to name a few things. Do you see them clear as day? Unless a miracle happens, Sony's console won't be on top of this gen.

Since when was america lost to nintendo from the begining? Last I heard the ps brand was the owner of america right from the begining? What games didnt live up to the hype there trailors created? You are a fanboy that has no idea of what he is talking about.

Right from the beginning means after launch windows closed. Sales trends after the intial 1-2 months started to heavily favor the 360 and the Wii in the americas.

Even it were true that the PS brand was owning america right from the beginning (which isn't true since the N64 and PSone were neck to neck for the first year), the PS brand for sure isn't owning america now.

Most popular Motorstorm. The final game's graphics didn't match the visuals shown in the trailer at E3 2005. Killzone is likely to follow. Also, Motorstorm didn't help the PS3 to generate notable higher sales as some PS3 fans claimed.

As for the fanboy comment I'll leave it to the members of this forum to decide who of us is more of "a fanboy that has no idea what he is talking about".

Just because the motorstorm visuals looked somewhat different than the trailor shows at E3 06 wont mean that killzone would follow. Motorstorm was a rushed game, developers in my thinking didnt have the time spent to make those visuals true,Killzone has been in development and stilll in development for about 2 years now, that is a completely different story.

So Leo-j how exactly does that look to you would it be say a game that "Didn't live up to the hype its trailers created?" And Chubear here is an application of the logic you are using with bold all the time I can say fuck as many fucking times as I want but repeatedly using the fucking word destroys any impact the word ever fucking had in the first place so that in the fucking end I'm completly fucked when I try to use the word in its intended way as I have completly fucking destroyed its ability to intensify a statement. Continue that logic to the end and see what you come up with.

As to your arguments do you have any proof to this market change you speak of I mean most PS3 fans will at least have games their talking about all I've seen from you so far is essentially statements like I'm willing to stick out my neck and say the PS3 will be the dominant console this generation so thus it will happen. Which I mean I guess that's fine if that's what you want to believe but its on par to me at least as saying I believe little green men will fly in through my window and start building sand castles no there is no proof of it right now but I believe the trends of the last 20 years in my view show it will happen.

For Everybody's Golf it sold about 1.6 times as many copies as the highest selling Gundum game on the PS2 at and started selling when the PS2 was already the dominant console with about 29 million sold w/w with 10 million consoles sold in Japan. If you extrapulate the 1.6 as many sold to the Gundam Musou game on the PS3 you get a little under 450k. If you figure the PS3 to have about 1.10 million consoles in Japan by July 31st which would be about 25k a week from now until July 31st and compare it to the percentage of the 10 million that bought this game in Japan orginally assuming they all bought it the first day you get about 14% of the population bought it if they all bought it that very first day Hot Shots released in Japan. 14% of the 1.10 million gives you I'll say 160k. All these assumption are to the positive benefit of the PS3 assuming that sales will more than double per week from now until July 31st that all the games will be bought the first day as opposed to over the lifetime of the system and that the intial buying public was a pool of 10 million only to raise the percentage as opposed to using the 25 million sold PS2 in Japan at the moment. I predict this game will boost sales in Japan of the PS3 but overall will at most reach 600k in Japan which even at 1.10 million is an insane attach rate.

... I hate it when threads get soooo off topic .. anyone still interested in the Minna no Golf 5 + PS3 bundle?

nope, you're wrong. Dragon Quest is the perennial runner up. The Grand Daddy in Japan is Pokemon. Final Fantasy doesn't even place.

And the top three are all exclusive to Nintendo now. There is no hope that Sony will be ahead of Nintendo by 2012. In fact, I will say right now, categorically, to make Chubear happy, that the PS3 will never outsell the Wii over a year in Japan until the end of their respective lives.

So from what I understand of your statement you do agree that Sony's PS3 will eventually out sell the wii in Japan but you don't think it'll be in the next coming year, right? So the ony thing different about what I said is that you believe it'll take longer than the next year for the Japan to shift to the PS3? Well... I guess that's a decent outlook .. but still, it's the same end result so how they get there isn't really the major thing, it's mainly who'll win at the end of the day that matters really.

you need to practise your reading comprehension. I have no idea how you managed to get what you did from my statement. Let me make it clearer for you:

PS3 will never have higher yearly sales than Wii in Japan.

Need me to make it even clearer?

in 2006 Wii has outsold PS3 in Japan.
in 2007 Wii will outsell PS3 in Japan.
in 2008 Wii will outsell PS3 in Japan.
in 2009 Wii will outsell PS3 in Japan.
in 2010 Wii will outsell PS3 in Japan.
in 2011 Wii will outsell PS3 in Japan.
in 2012 Wii will outsell PS3 in Japan.
Do you need me to keep going, or do you get the point?

In other words, I'm not just saying that Wii will end up with higher LTD sales than PS3 at the end of their respective lives, but that the PS3 will not have a single year where it outsells the Wii.

This is the future of Japan as predicted by me. If you wish to save this post like you have been later to show me in 2012 when PS3 makes its amazing comeback, go ahead. It will just be wasted time.
