the wii is not selling more than the ps2.

check your numbers, the ps2 boom was after the third year after 2002 they are a huge bumb in sales.

also all the third parties games are going ps3 or xbox360.

wii--> only nintendo love.

thats why its won't reign supreme like the ps2 did.

right now the market is split 54% ps3+xbox360 - 46% wii

nintendo have played all its card, wii sales are high due many exclusive made by nintendo throw in the first 2 years of release. wii fit, brawl, galaxy, mario kart, zelda.

that sadly won't hold it for more, i expect 2009 to be a year of third party remakes, and brawl 2 kart 2 and zelda tl 2.

with minor improvements :(

At its current sales numbers, Wii will outsell PS2 in a couple of years. About the ''boom'': let's just say the boom was the moment PS2 went selling Wii-like numbers(still not as much though), and Wii has been selling that kind of numbers for its entire lifetime.

TheSource made a nice report about the Wii-sales trajectory a while back, it said the Wii is going to have sold 150-155 million in 5 years. Dig it up if you want to.

About the games: the problem you're mentioning would've been a problem during the first year, but you must realise that third-party support is finally starting to get big, especially Japanese third-party support. That, and Nintendo will have games like Animal Crossing and Wii Music for big first-party sales. Hardcores can wait for Kid Icarus and The Legend of Zelda, but they'll play big ''hardcore'' third-party games as well.

i think the Wii is on the way being the new Ps2, as most people like it (generally speaking)!!

it can beat the Ps2 in sales and it can sell even more due to the casual gaming!

also, people see the Wii as more nex-gen than Ps3/Xbox360 as it brings major changes in gaming rather than just graphics...

i got people playing Ps3 in my house and then, asking "erm, what is the difference between Ps2 and Ps3??"
(talking about people generally, not hard-core gamers)

so that's how Wii is going to be next Ps2.....

Wii console: 0595 8808 5698 2709

The PS3 is doing just as good as the PS2 did, look at hardware from launch. Wii is doing amazing but it's starting to slow now. PS3 is picking up.

Like comon look at this line up of AAA games
Tekken 6, resistance 2, LBP, motorstorm 2, gran turismo 5, afrika, infamous, GoW3, Killzone 2, resident evil 5, wardevil and more(i got 2 lazy 2 contineu 2 say the rest)

Wii is starting to slow.  I didn't know that.  Thanks for the information.  I was coming to a sales sight everyday and did not even realise this important piece of information but thanks to you I have been enlightened.

Not quite the same, as the other competitors will both sell well and receive great 3rd party support. We wont have the situation where devs just dont bother making games for the other consoles, PS3 and 360 may even get better support wit the like of Call of Duty, GTA, Assassins Creed, Prince of Persia, bioshock, mass effect and loads of other great franchises call the HD consoles their home

wii will not get the 70% marketshare.
wii will never get all the exclusives like sony did.

there is not going to be a ps2 this generation.

I don't know about that.  If 70% market share is the epitome of PS2, the Wii may not quite make it.  But I do expect the Wii to make 60-65% at some point in this generation.  You have to realize the Wii has been this successful with relatively few quality third party offerings.  Especially compared to what has been released on the 360/PS3.  If Nintendo starts getting quality third party support, the market could snowball for the Wii.  And if you do exclude the 360's headstart, the Wii has easily sold >50% of the consoles on the market.  And as the generation wears on, you'll likely see a bigger change to the market leader as people don't see the value in buying dying soon to be replaced consoles (like the xbox and gamecube at the end of their lives).

Mifely, is it that you don't think the wii thing is a fad, or that you don't want to be the one to come out and say it? I think it is just a fad, I traded my wii(after i got bored with zelda, mario and wii bowling it became a drag) to my friend for his 360 and a copy of gta4 because he was convinced that the wii is the system to have right now simply because everybody was talking it up and there's that shortage going on that makes it look more appealing to some people. But all is well, he got what he wanted and I got what I wanted. I just think the entertainment value of the wii is a little stretched out by some people.

the wii wont beat the ps2 sales, never, it has no long term appeal. trust me it will pass.

Braveheart, Gaming Edition:

January 2007: "The Wii fad is going to die any day now!  Swarm the internet forums when it happens!  Wait for it!"

June 2007: "Hold... "

December 2007: "HOLD!"

March 2008: "HOOOOOOLD!!!!"

June 2008: "HOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLDDDD!!"

Some point after the eighth generation has begun, and the Wii's sales decline due to market saturation: "NOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!"

Super World Cup Fighter II: Championship 2010 Edition

Wii will break every sales record in the book, and get an insane
ammount of marketshare. But imo the 3rd party support will
be (almost) evenly distributed. With all the new demographic ninty
got, this gen is gonna have games all arround.

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

Even the biggest Wii fanboys on here are making predictions like the Wii selling three more then any other console. Look at the PS2 numbers, its going on 6 times more sales then any of that generations consoles and STILL selling. I'm sure a lot of you remember the PS1 selling well after the PS2 came out as well.

The Wii will, in the short term, have the most consoles for a good while, at least a few years until the PS3 drops to a low PS2 like price (199ish). It will then be replaced along with the PS3 (and hopefully not the 360, though it seems like MS has a thing for losing money by venturing outside its Windows/Office walled garden) and stop selling very quickly since it will be very very obsolete by then (like NES compared to N64). The PS3 will probably be inferior to the PS4 by a sufficient margin but about equal to the next Wii (just like the PS2 is more or less equal to the current Wii) and will keep on selling past 100 million while the PS4 starts out slower since it costs more.

When the Wii+gamecube sales are greater then the PS2 by itself, then go ahead and declare Nintendo victory. When that day comes you will probably find me ice skating in hell.

PSN ID: ChosenOne feel free to add me

Nothing is certain for now, The Wii might or might not be having the same success of ps2. This will all depends how the 3rd party support will be like in the next 2 years, If current trend of support continue at this low lvl through out the next few years. You'll most likely see a sharp decline in Wii Sales when the other consoles start dropping to a mass market price. There are still a lot of PS2 users out there unwilling to pay at current price but will likely to buy a HD console when the price hit 250 and below.
