Forums - Gaming - when was the hardest time to be a sega fan

I'd say right now. Sega has turned from a respectable gaming company in the 90's to one of the most crappy developers around today.

I might as well say it: Sega is more of a shovelware machine than Ubisoft can ever dream to be.

I disagree. Now's a pretty good time to be a Sega fan.

Condemned 2 was great! Viking wasn't bad. Valkyria Chronicles is GOTY (in my blind love for it) and the new Sonic looks really cool.

well, I was one during the SNES/GEN era...

Definately the hardest time for me was when they announced that they were going to stop supporting thr dreamcast and just make games. It kinda of hurt when I had been supporting them since the sega master system.. I however got over it quite quikly since I love consoles and bought a PS2. I still tend to support Sega when I can and exspecially when it entails an RPG

Systems I own (Games)

Sega: Dreamcast (40) , Saturn (25), Genesis (50), Masters System (10), Game Gear (20)

Sony: PS1 (8), PS2 (60) , PS3 (5), PSP (12)

Atari: 2600 (18) , 7800 (10), Lynx (10)

For me it was when the CD and the 32x failed miserably, because that day i said that they were doomed, only back then i believed that Nintendo would bring them down with their next-gen CD console (that turned out to be the cartridge-based 64), didn't knew that Sony was meant to be their killer... But didn't matter, either Sony or Nintendo were meant to bring them down after their bad reputation with the sucky bundles that will lead with the poor Saturn performance, the total distrust, and the doom of the awesome Dreamcast...

With the MegaDrive they touch the sky, and they could reach it, but now we'll never know because their rush and poor business decisions between the CD and the Saturn...

ive never been much of a sega fan...but i would guess that the hardest time was when they said they were dropping out of the console business.
Any fans that are still fans probably arent having any "hard times" though...else they likely would have stopped being fans a while before now, with all the crap games they produce.

I remember on a fieldtrip with my class on the bus I was the only one with a gamegear.. my friends had the gameboy... of course I had the bigger, better and with colour, machine... but my 6 AA batteries where drained death so fast that I spent the most time watching my friends playing on their gameboys...

It was obvious: When Sega decided to drop the Dreamcast. This ended a long running tradition and what a shock that was, even though I wasn't into Sega.

Ditto. It would be hard nowadays to make a valid argument for your love of all things SEGA. Throughout their entire time as console makers, Sega were rivaling Nintendo as top dogs of first party development. Even after the Dreamcast got flushed, SEGA was on a roll for a few years. Then Sammy happened. End of SEGA.

Yeah, it makes me sad when I think about it. The Megadrive/Genesis was an excellent system and could rival the SNES. Sega games generally were polished and innovative. Now, they rush their prime franchises for a quick buck.

Most of their best offerings nowadays aren't even developed by them. Condemned and Bleach, two of their best games, are only published by them. Their biggest upcoming game is being developed by Bioware. It's like SEGA doesn't trust themsevles to make their own games anymore. Only AM-2 is still dropping gold, with Virtua Fighter 5. I wonder what they've got next up their sleeve.

yep, it's definitely right now, and every new release of a Sonic game further destroys gaming's old 2nd best mascot.
