Forums - Nintendo - What are the odds of a game featuring Headtracking being revealed at E3?

The problem with head tracking:

what if there was someone behind you in the game? if you turned around, then you wouldn't see the screen anymore!

Head tracking shouldn't replace actual camera control. I've seen some videos of PC games using this implementation and, IMO, it's an almost worthless implementation of the head tracking concept.

What you can do with head tracking is create a very impressive illusion of 3D display by making minute camera shifts based on the movement of the player's head. Think of it as more of a user feedback feature which adds to the immersion, like rumble, rather than a new input technology.

@ReggieNator: I was thinking about that, too--I think a decent solution would be to have you 'look' toward the side of the screen to turn the game world. Metroid and Medal of Honour have 'dead zones' that you point inside of to aim the gun, or point outside of to turn, and it works really well. I think that could translate pretty nicely to 'looking' in a head-tracking game.

@the idea of multiplayer: sure, they could do it with splitscreen. You'd just need two-four pairs of headgear and a lot of space

@Topic: When they pulled the feature from Boom Blox, didn't they say it was because they had bigger and better ideas for it?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I see the odds of being fairly low (in particular for the Wii) ...

The technology is very cool, and I wouldn't be (that) surprised to see it make its way into PC gaming, but the Wii is designed to be a social experience and head-tracking is only useful in a single player setting.

True.  But couldn't you theoretically have 2 people with headtracking by using a splitscreen and two pieces of infrared head gear?  Ha, it could definitely get hectic in a room playing a game like that tho, with both parties frantically moving around to dodge or get better angles (depending on how the tracking was implemented into gameplay)...

and we thought 4 player wii tennis was dangerous enough...

NO of course not, everybody just said that its very unlikely that is why I chose that. Example

Meh.

It looks cool. I guess.

If High Voltage announce that they are bundling the game with some form of head tracking tech and their publisher is Nintendo and that Nintendo is putting together this accessory that is supposed to work with the irbar. (I only buy nintendo peripherals or accessories.)

Then I will probably shed tears of manly VERY manly joy.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

simple head tracking solution:

tape wii-mote to head.

there I just saved nintendo like 10 million dollars.

I doubt the head-tracking idea would be addressed.

Odds are 1 million to 1.
