Ummmm....There's people who don't even play games at all that have heard of FF games...
There's not that many people who DO play games who've heard of SO series...even though SO3 is the best and longest RPG ever made until the last few hours.

Obviously FF XIII, if any Enix franchise is close to Square's FF franchise that would be Dragon Quest, not Star Ocean...

Final Fantasy XIII without a doubt. But I'll buy both games because they'll both be great!

OK first with the bolded part:
Japenese gamers know that Star Oceans is a series that began on the Super Famicom in 1996. Only American and European gamers know it as a Playstation series.
Even if the first part of the sentence were true the italicized bolded part is still flawed and itis akin to saying. S-E knows that Japenese gamers know that all 6 Final Fantasies came out on Nintendo Platforms and S-E also knows they showed a tech demo for the 64 so they have to cater to this and release FF7 on the N64 and the Playstation.
Since both are wrong there is no indication that SO4 is a timed exclusive it may be possible may be not but it is far from a sure thing.
Back on topic from a corporate level FF XIII is more popular internationally and it is also more popular in Japan and hence the bigger IP and means more sales for both SW and HW. So the obvious choice is Ninja Bread Man RPG MMIX agitito vs fabulo crystalous nova advent core second chapter of part 2 IX!
No offense to the OP but are you actually joking, you have actually asked that question. No one has said SO4 which i am very glad to see because the only JRPG series even capable of putting up a fight against FinalFantasy is DragonQuest and even then its difficult for DQ to even smell the sales of FF.
