and the the Wii would have been a GameCube Bis and would have been a distant third..
Bundling Wii Sports was one of the greatest moves ever on the gaming market, making the Wii not only a bargain compared to PS3 and 360 2 years ago but also creating a plug-an-play style of console, appealing to both core gamers and mass market
So I am quite happy Nintendo didnt bundle ssbb
Yes of course.. it's like tetris and the Game Boy.. nobody know why you bought it: maybe for the game, maybe for the machine.. but hey that doesn't matter you bought the thing and instant fun! Like Tetris, Wii Sports is a game you can't hate.. you may love hate, you may not like it.. but you don't hate it.. just like Tetris..

It was an excellent decision! With Wii-Sports Nintendo convinced millions of non-gamers to give it a try. And they got hooked for ever.
The gaming industry got a larger population and will get even larger. This is very good for all gamers, although I see that it's hard for other console fanatics to understand it. They focus on that 'casual VS core' thing and they can't see the important facts. These 'casuals' are getting hooked with the experience and many of them will need more 'core' titles sooner or later.

It was the right move by Nintendo, because they offer something to consumes that is presumed to be "free" or at least they can market it that way.
I doubt many people who have bought PS2's, Xbox's, Gamecubes, Wii's, 360's or PS3's did so without a game bundled with it (unless it was bought at launch), because it's just value. Me for example bought a PS2 with Kingdom Hearts and FFX, Wii with wii sports (duh), 360 with Gears and PS3 with R&C.
Fact that Wii's RRP includes the game is increased value to consumers, because they are getting everything they need to get started.
Wii Sports defines the Wii. Including it with every console was a masterstroke. Accessibility and appeal to the widest possible audience are crucial to any successful pack in.
Wii Fit is a suitable candidate as an alternative pack in, which I suspect will transpire in future.
My 4 yr. old son and I have barely touched Wii Sports since we got the system. We've maybe logged 1/2 hr. at the most. We'd much rather play our other games like Mario Kart, Galaxy, etc. IMO, Nintendo should've just left out Wii Sports and charged me $25-$50 less.
Keep this in mind when reading what I type...
I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.
For me (at launch): No, it's not worth it
For me (1.5 years later): That was a great idea.. my relos that never touched consoles before are actually now coming over to play (other) games, after about a year of them just playing wii sports
For nintendo: Hell yes.. one of the best business decisions made in the industry.. wii sports is a major selling factor for a lot of the now wii-owners

It seems you and your son are the exception rather than the rule, what do you think?
Any way i think it was a master stroke, I still enjoy the game even after all this time! And its the life of the party these days.
