Unless this game makes it into the top 5 games of ALL TIME on Metacritic, then no. It will not be all it is hyped up to be.

no one is hyping it that much. The most i've seen it hyped as was 90+% and probably the best looking game on consoles when it gets released

SONY is hyping it that much.

This game is Sony's Fable 1.  If possible, they are hyping KZ2 worse than Moylneux did F1.

Didn't you make a thread about how Sony and GG had not talked about Killzone 2 for ages? And now you are saying that they are hyping it more than Moylneux hyped Fable?

Edit: Here is the thread you made: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=18500

So which is it? Are Sony and GG hyping KZ2, or not?

HAHA, Killzone 2 over-hyped, and this is coming from a Halo 3 owner. Priceless.

The interesting thing is, Killzone 2 is selling itself almost entirely on graphics.

Halo 3 was panned for its graphics but got nine's and ten's for it's gameplay...

Read the two threads.  Sony have hyped this game's graphics to the shit.  So much so that its all that gets talked about for the game (by anyone other than makingmusic, who clearly has deeper tastes).  The released a CGI trailer and lied about its origins to help foster the impression that this game's graphics will be the second coming of christ.

The problem is (as my thread points out) there seems to have been a slowdown in hype from Sony.  Of course graphics whores and those few people that genuinely believe the gameplay will be great keep the hype going.  But this is the time when other developers (Epic with Gears 2 for example) are talking non-stop about gameplay, something we are not seeing in nearly the same quantities from Guerilla or Sony.

As someone else said in this thread, a few CGI trailers and some screenshots are enough to get some people hyping a game (hell I'm like that with Versus), but when the entire hype train of a game is based around its graphics, and noone is talking about gameplay, you better hope the gameplay is just some awesome, massive and deep feature Sony simply forgot to talk about.  No matter what the excuse (Resistance 2 bla bla bla), I think the fact this game got pushed to February is HIGHLY suspect.

I have a feeling E3 will be all about the multiplayer, along with a beta announcement.

They have talked about the gameplay somewhat, in regards to the cover system, etc., but I agree that details in regards to the larger scope of things have been somewhat lacking (for example, what role will weather play in the game?  Is it just limited to things like the arc tower, or are there bigger things in the works?).

But yeah, the beta should answer all our questions as far as basic combat and multiplayer modes are concerned.

And there reasoning behind the delay makes sense to me.  Having Socom, Resistance 2, and Killzone 2 in the market at the same time just isn't a good idea, especially with all the other shooters that will inevitably hit the market at the same time, like CoD5, etc.  They can't make Insomniac delay their game, and Socom has always been ahead of Killzone 2 development-wise (it was originally going to be out in September before it got delayed to October, and it is a PSN title in the vein of Warhawk, after all), so Killzone was really the only one they could delay.

There are not many games that can be released outside of peak periods and still be considered blockbusters.  GTAIV and MGS4 could do it.  Halo 3 was September but even that was getting close to the holidays.  But February is just a dog in Europe saleswise for a game with a poor predeccessor.

Socom is largely its own game in a weird kind of genre.  Resistance I could understand not wanting the clash, but avoiding it so desperately you kick a game you've been hyping since 2005 to 2009's dead months?  I agree that the Beta will show us a lot about the gameplay.  But at the end of the day 99.9% of all people playing it will be PS3 owners, so do you really expect that to slow down the hype if it is unjustified?

Assuming not all ps3 owners are fanboys, then yes, I do.

I know I'll be making every effort possible to get in on the beta, so if nothing else my impressions will be brought forth to discussions on here (though I wouldn't consider myself an expert on FPSes by any means).

Of course, this is assuming they don't make the beta a Qore exclusive.  I will not be paying for that BS, even if it is only $2.99.  >_>

Well, I say that now... :P

Graphics look superb at the moment and I'm sure they will be fantastic by release, and I'm guessing the same with sound.

They may not have succeeded with the gameplay in the original game, but that game was also released four years ago. And I'm sure they would have learned from there lesson. If Sony and Guerilla want this game to succeed I think they are going to want to make sure the gameplay is also of high quality. They need something to rival good games like Gears Of War.

graphics look amazing, but psm3uk in their newest issue talked about killzone 2 feeling"slow and wooly " compared to cod4. And that theres no" lock on " and "enemies still take too long to die".
However they said guerilla sed this would change and tbh this is a day one purchase for me if the reviews on metacritic etc are 80%+. With so much hype surroiunding it i think sony will really be pushing guerilla to sort out all the fault of killzone 1 (ai , fps etc) and i think the gameplay will excellent purely because sony is forcing gueriila to make this game as gd as possible. (because of all the people wantin got buy it if its gd)

GG's games generally have the "slow and wooly" feel to them, if you want to describe it like that.  They aim for realism, and this results in the game not having things like lightning fast reloads and superhuman running speeds.

You can see in the gameplay vids how the main charcter walks a bit slower than those in the average shooter, and the way his gun sways as he moves forward, etc.

Of course, GG has said they're aiming for a more tactical feel, forcing you to rely on cover rather than running and gunning a lot.  Hence the cover system.

no, no I didnt say that makingmusic i was quoting my magazine psm3. I think killzpne will be more akin to battlefield bad company as that has slower reloading times and aiming times than COD4. As sed b4 will be a definite purchase 4 me if reviews are 80%+
