I have a feeling E3 will be all about the multiplayer, along with a beta announcement.

They have talked about the gameplay somewhat, in regards to the cover system, etc., but I agree that details in regards to the larger scope of things have been somewhat lacking (for example, what role will weather play in the game?  Is it just limited to things like the arc tower, or are there bigger things in the works?).

But yeah, the beta should answer all our questions as far as basic combat and multiplayer modes are concerned.

And there reasoning behind the delay makes sense to me.  Having Socom, Resistance 2, and Killzone 2 in the market at the same time just isn't a good idea, especially with all the other shooters that will inevitably hit the market at the same time, like CoD5, etc.  They can't make Insomniac delay their game, and Socom has always been ahead of Killzone 2 development-wise (it was originally going to be out in September before it got delayed to October, and it is a PSN title in the vein of Warhawk, after all), so Killzone was really the only one they could delay.

There are not many games that can be released outside of peak periods and still be considered blockbusters.  GTAIV and MGS4 could do it.  Halo 3 was September but even that was getting close to the holidays.  But February is just a dog in Europe saleswise for a game with a poor predeccessor.

Socom is largely its own game in a weird kind of genre.  Resistance I could understand not wanting the clash, but avoiding it so desperately you kick a game you've been hyping since 2005 to 2009's dead months?  I agree that the Beta will show us a lot about the gameplay.  But at the end of the day 99.9% of all people playing it will be PS3 owners, so do you really expect that to slow down the hype if it is unjustified?
