Forums - Sales - With a $50 price cut next week, do you expect 360 sales to increase a lot?

I think it'll be around 75-85k, with a theoretical 5k drop on average for the PS3 (since 'some' people who are deciding between the two will be swayed by a $299 360)

but remember, the first shipment of MGS4 bundle is also coming out the same week.

True.  We'll have to wait and see, then.  Though I still think the PS3 will sell a bit less than if it had the MGS4 bundle AND the 360 didn't have a price cut.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I could see a temporary 20k-25k weekly bump, then down to maybe 10k/week.

For the US alone, huh? 100,000 extra sales the first week, then 50,000, then 25,000, and then it'll be back down to basically pre-drop levels.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Ah yes. Cling to the hope the PS3's poor showing is because 80GB consoles are selling out. Even though they are not in some states..........

and yet still didn't need to use it as a spin for any NPD numbers. impressive, no? ;)

maybe like a 10-20 thousand increase at most. People still do not want to pay that much when you can get a Wii for 250.

It seems safe to say that the price cut will have a permanent effect. As far as I remember, the only price cuts which didn't were PS3/360's in Japan.

Ignoring the initial spike, it will probably boost sales by 10-20%. Perhaps a little more due to the $300 psychological barrier being broken.

I do. Heck that will be a 20 GB HD console for $299. That's getting mainstream. Inflation adjusted that's not that out of line compared to past generations.

After the initial boost the XBox 360 will see a sustained improvement of 5,000 to 10,000 units per week ... Not a massive improvement, but certainly measureable.

Yah. My guess is approx. 80k for a bit, especially with the E3 coverage in the mainstream giving gaming a little exposure to the masses over next week.

This seems to be a price drop on just the Pro, making way for something new later. I think we're going to see a new SKU coming soon with a 60gig hard drive replacing the current Pro. I think they're cleaning out stock.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

I expect the normal bump in sales for a few weeks which levels off to a small increase in sales for 360 and a small corresponding sales drop for PS3. Maybe about 5k.

A $50 drop isn't enough to increase sales much.
