Imagine if it was 80GB PS3 + MGS4 and Dualshock 3 for $299, serious numbers

Why would you put it at $299 when it keeps selling out.  It Sony wants big number keep restocking the 80gb in the US and release the 80GB in Europe. That would be some serious numbers.

Yeah I agree with u bout 80GB in Europe, i wasnt asking for $299, thats y i said "Imagine" ^^

I don't think any game this generation has been a huge system mover (even a juggernaut like Halo 3). People were way too optimistic about the effect MGS4 would have on PS3 sales.

I disagree. Halo 3 gave x360 a nice boost.

During the week Halo 3  came out the 360 got a 40% Hardware Increase while MGS4 week it came out the PS3 got a 113% increase....This is for WW

Sales of the XBox360 increased 50% the week Halo 3 was released.

Sales of the PS3 increased 100% the week MGS4 was released.

Granted, the sales of the PS3 dropped back to pre-MGS4 levels the week after release, while sales of the XBox360 declined much more slowly after Halo 3, but I attribute some of that to the beginning of the holiday season.

Edit:  Beaten to the punch.

It did move consoles, for one week. It was never going to do much more then that.

Honestly, I think the consoles it did move had more to do with the 80GB SKU than the software it came with. Backwards compatibility is hard to get in a PS3 these days.

I believe it moved consoles in all three regions, even if it was small. At least sales are above 9k in Japan.

yea but a lot of games move consoles in Japan.  For PS3 we've seen hardware bumps many many times, they've just been short lived and MGS has been the biggest bump so far.  It's a lot easier for games to move hardware on losing consoles in Japan, we've seen this in the past.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

People are just not willing to pay so much money for these consoles. The PS3 has been so high in price for a while, that it's starting to alienate potential customers. The wii benefits partially from a lower price point. $400.00 is still alot for the general consumer; kids, casual, teens, etc. Only the hardcore would buy a PS3 now.

Small bump? If I'm not mistaken, sales went up 180% AND put the PS3 past the Wii....far from a small bump

The reason was the franchise was not a system seller. The hype blinded many people and they believed it would be, but MGS was not only on the down slope but has never been a game that sold systems.
