Forums - Gaming - Sony needs to change their game plan.

wrong wrong wrong. not even ms will be happy to lose money on anything. remember that the ps3 isnt just a video game player. it is a blu ray player and is winning the war for sony. couple billion in licensing there. it is also going to be a media download center. it will be the first company to think of when buying an hdtv. it will be the start of their cross media (get it) plan. sony has a lot of plans to unify the company and make money off of the ps3 through things other than the ps3. if the ps3 overall breaks even (which it should) i think sony stands to make crazy amounts of money off of it.

the xbox does do much for ms besides straight up make them money. if it loses money, that money is gone forever. sony can lose money on the ps3 and use it to make more money elsewhere, but ms uses other money to take the brunt of the losses.

that is why the xbox is more likely to die than the ps.

Please drew, do some research before posting stuff like this.  Please show me how Sony can make 2+ billion dollars on blu-ray licensing. I'm not being sarcastic, as I'd love to see it. People throw around crazy numbers for this, and from all the admittedly inexact math I've done, it doesn't even come close.

Microsoft can lose money on the 360 and make it up elsewhere, as well. They own the rights to the primary operating system used by personal computers in pretty much every region in the world -- do you honestly think they don't have plans? They talk about the exact same types of plans that Sony does; use their console as a Trojan to inject Microsoft-branded hardware and media utilities into people's living rooms. It's the exact same thing, except Microsoft has a lot more money to burn on the endeavor.

What Sony must do is release great games and lower the price of the hardware .With that and the current work being done on Home ,the Network ,the firmware updates ,the remaking of the Sixaxis with rumble and the better PR they should climb again .

the only point that can save sony is about the game that will be release on PS3 cause they are make by Sony "himself" since the beginning !
and there are a lot of these game that are coming out !

at the opposite, M$ is buying "exclusivity" for some game and only some
ofc, they have halo3 but whatelse ?

sometime, you need to have a "name" like Halo, god of war, FF or GTA
and for the moment, M$ dones't have a lot compared to Sony

(and GTA is in part coming on PS3/ bioshock will be released on PC like Mass Effect ...)

==> are GTAIV and Halo3 sufficient to buy a Xbox360 ?

All depend of these special game eclusive to the PS3
are they so good ? are they so better than Xbox360 game ?
How will really look like KillZone2 ?
What about GT5 ? Tekken ? Lair ? etc ...

Of course the question about FFXIII and MGS4 exclusivity is still an interrogative very hot point : people are waiting for final answers about these 2 exclusivity

Time to Work !

FFXIII is not possible on x360.

Bodhesatva, then what is yours explanations, why Kingdom hearts 3 won`t come to ps3?

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/769/769776p1.html
Which brings us to Nomura's mention of Kingdom Hearts 3. A programmer, having heard of Nomura's intentions to add air ships to the game, remarked "Is this Kingdom Hearts III?". Ge-maga followed up by confirming the development of a new Kingdom Hearts game. Nomura responded by saying that it would be impossible to work on two huge projects at once, so he hopes to get started on the next Kingdom Hearts game after having accumulating know-how from Versus XIII.

Elsewhere in the issue, Nomura commented that we'll be getting word on the next Kingdom Hearts project following the summer (note that this implies that the May Square Enix party won't be the unveiling ground, although this issue of the magazine was released prior to the announcement of that event). It's unclear if this is the same project Nomura referred to in the Versus XIII interview, or a side project whose development is taking place concurrently with Versus XIII.
so, very soon, you will get announcement, don`t worry. :)

Tetsuya Nomura stated he has ideas for another installment; a secret clip that appears to be a teaser trailer for the next installment is shown at the end of Kingdom Hearts II if certain completion goals are met. However, Nomura did not state exactly what he would like to do with a new installment. The Kingdom Hearts team is postponing Kingdom Hearts projects to be able to work on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but a new Kingdom Hearts project will be revealed in summer 2007. In Famitsu, Nomura stated that there are multiple Kingdom Hearts projects in the works, although what those projects consist of is not known.

With the release of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+, a new teaser has further hinted at the potential plot of the next installment in the series. According to Nomura, it will be a whole new series. "The next title won't just be Kingdom Hearts III. If it were III, we wouldn't call it a new series." The new series is set to be announced at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

I think the Sony strategy is working pretty well at the moment. How many people are going to buy a Wii now and wait until a ps3 drops in price and buy one of those as well? How many people own a ps2 now and are waiting until a ps3 drops in price before buying it? I think once Sony releases a couple of price cuts the number of people buying it will increase, until then they just need to make sure it doesn't fall into obscurity. As for the idea to include a blu-ray player, with Blockbusters recent announcement that blu-rays are going to be available for rental across nearly every store, I think this decision is starting to pay off for Sony.

Just try to learn to READ.

Q: "Ten years ago, Final Fantasy VII became a symbol to the entire PlayStation format. Could FFXIII come to mean as much for the PS3?"

A:"FFVII was a milestone in PS history. The game changed the entire RPG genre and set a lot of new trends. Strictly content-wise, the theme alternated between fantasy and futurism and we're doing something similar with FFXIII. The game mixes a new kind of fantasy with futuristic elements that have never been seen in a game before. It's very interesting to explore the new hardware. When you've managed to harness the power in it the results become unbelievable. We're accomplishing things you hardly can manage without the PS3."

Sounds like bolstered claims, I'll wait till we have some hard evidence though. After all, they said the same thing about MGS4 too and guess where it looks like that is going? :)
