when does 2008 Q1 financials come in?

No idea but it will be interesting. Im betting ps3/sony gaming division is in the black. anyone want to bet with me?

I was the only one who predicted a profit for 2007 Q# financials. Alot of people were saying 800 mil - 1 bil dollar loss and no one said less than 400 mil loss. Except me! I said 1 dollar profit.

Yea, people really like to dwell on sonys losses in the past year or two... even though sony knew it was going to happen, just like they know they are going to make it all back plus billions.

First of all where is Xbox360 price cut? Don't expect Sony to drop the price before 360 this time because things have changed.

Havnt they already lost all the profits they made from the PS2? They made end this generation with over 6 billion in lossess if they keep slashing prices just to stay competetive. They should just do a "redo"

They knew they were going to lose them before ps3 was even being distributed. They dropped the price one time and thats because productions costs dropped nearly 5 hundred dollars since release day. As productions drops, so will prices.

For the fifth time, would you like to bet on sony gaming division being in the black for the rest of its lifetime?

BTW To those who say it would only be a small change in sales, lets take last years drop for example.

What would their "redo" be?  They can't be more casual than Nintendo.  MS skimped on design/manufacturing to cut costs.  This lead to the RROD issues and mounting warranty costs/losses.

I think that Sony is in an excellent position.  They have established blu-ray as the disc format to replace DVD and they have a high definition gaming system with amazing potential.  The PS2 may very well be financing the introduction of the PS3, just as the PS1 financed the PS2.  They have a distinct product for the casual market in the PS2, a good offering in the hand held market with the PSP, and they have excellent momentum with the PS3.  So I ask again, what do you think Sony would like to "redo"???

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

I don't think there should be a price drop because I think sony should drop price when cost come down to make their systems that way they can make a profit. Plus something about the price keeping away the majority of the knuckleheads and other console fanboys (who for some reason may want one) is appealing to me.

Considering the point of a corporation is to make a profit and not gain market share, I highly doubt Sony will drop the price of the PS3. Sony is hoping the PS3 turns a profit for the fiscal year that ends in 2009. If they drop the price to increase market share but lose more money in the process, what is the impetus for them to do that? It would be the quintessential pyrrhic victory.

First off, Blu-Ray may be the dominant HD disc format but it has a long way to go before it becomes established as the format to replace DVD ...

Now, the PS2 didn't "Finance" the introduction of the PS3 its profits were erased by the introduction of the PS3; if it was financing the introduction the division would see lower profits or minor losses, not the loss of all profit gained over an 8 year period. The PSP may have sold well in terms of hardware, but (as we will see at E3) the lack of software sales will result in a rapid drop off in third party support for the system. The PS2 may be a decent affordable system, but its sales are on a downward trend, it is losing third party support (as they move towards newer systems), and software sales are rapidly declining.

This isn't to say that Sony is in an awful position, but their condition is not as good as you make it out to be.
