Kid Icarus or Brawl version preferably. Then Teen (which I consider older than Brawl), and then Adult.

i'd much prefer that the story is excellent whatever the age, rather than the age being excellent whatever the story

Make him the same age as Link, in TP. He should appear capable of kicking ass against epic, mammoth enemies, but retain an air of innocence, and purity.

And I hate open toed sandals, on male characters! Put on some Timberland boots!
