For all those claiming this is old news that's immaterial. It will be read by perspective consumers today. It is in a (crap I might add) national newspaper today.

It can't be ignored as news nor seen as trolling as its in a national newspaper not some stupid blog.

The real news here is that RROD continues to haunt MS and that so long as these kinds of stories appear in mainstream channels more damage is done to 360s reputation.

Just like Fox poor reporting on Mass Effect this will have an impact as we're talking mainstream reporting here (even though the paper is trash and the story poorly written/researched).

Where this probably does most harm is casual buyers who don't go near any specific content be it review magazines, gaming sites, etc. but go on general perceptions picked up from sources just like this.

You've got a point in what you say, but that was far from the intention of the poster. He could have commented something about it, about being information 1 year old and the fact RROD is still damaging MS reputation. But as he only wanted to troll, he dropped the post and waited for the reactions.

I'm going to make one last try to get some sense into this page of why this is valid news for a site such as VGChartz, and if its ignored again then I give up.

VGChartz - site tracking HW/SW sales of video games and consoles

A grossly incorrect story is run an a crap national newspaper that could very well affect some sales for a videogame console and harm its reputation with the readers of that particular rag

This is therefore newsworthy (although not as proof 360 = crap, MS lossing billions, etc) but for discussion on one of the following two topics:

a) will effect of such a story be minimal or potentially more damaging?

b) why is such rubbish written about videogames and what impact does it have?

I can easily imagine a conversation like the following (imagine Monty Python voices, I did!):

Horrible paper reader 1 : I'm gonna get our little Joe one of them fancy 360 consoles - been on about one for ages he bleedin' has

Horrible paper reader 2 : Nah you don't wanna do that! Didn't you read the paper today? Them things keep failing - costing whoever makes them bleeding millions it is! You should get one of them Wii's - they're the most popular one anyway, ain't they?

Horrible paper reader 1 : Really! Thank the Daily Mirror for saving me wasting me hard earned cash!

Okay its exaggerated but this kind of reporting is important to consider for its impacts.

I mean if it was my console I wouldn't want Mirror readers buying the damn thing but I suspect MS is rather less discerning that I would be and won't be keen to lose their custom if they read and believe articles such as the one reported in the OP.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft’s Entertainment & Devices Division, stressed that the majority of Xbox 360 owners were unaffected.

"This problem has caused frustration for some of our customers and for that, we sincerely apologise," he said.

I never saw first version of OP (I say that as I note it was edited) and if the original wording was using the story to bash 360 incorrectly then you're quite right and I can understand why original readers might have jumped on the attempt to troll rather than the nonetheless valid story about a poorly written but fairly prominent (as in a national newspaper) story about RROD

This article is from a paper that is the equivalent of an american tabloid. They provide 'news' in the same way that Fox News does.

Trolling++

^^LOL. Nice jab at Fox News. Although technically all news that passes through the hands of a human is tainted. Never believe anything 100% unless you see it, because EVERYONE has an agenda, not just conservatives.

i consider that as trolling.

you consider news without any personal input trolling?

I guess you need to learn what trolling means then.

So basically putting old news then stating its new news which is about the 360 and makes it look bad isn't trolling esp considering your a PS3 fan? Wow you should be banned troll.

Old news, but hey post what you want.
