...support for the Wii?

I know E3 is just around the corner and it´s the center of attention right now, but personally I can´t help but feel the real big surprises, as far as the Wii is concerned, will come from TGS (Tokyo Game Show).

So, now that every Japanese developer out there knows the Wii is probably the home console of choice this generation in Japan (historically, Japan just sticks with one system per generation), and in the rest of the world as well...do you expect a lot of big guns to be revealed for the Wii?....big JRPGs and such?

Yes, and we are already seeing the start of it.

Japanese Wii support is already very good. Just take a look at the latest announcements.
We've seen: Mega Man 9 (megaton), Arc of Fantasia, Rune Factory, Tenchu 4, all within a month or so.

Japanese support will only increase, the HD consoles are dead there. TGS will be a Nintendo + PSP event.

Well, I'm sticking by my prediction of Kingdom Hearts 3 being announced.

I say they stick with PS2 for a while still.  At least the ones i care about.  Maybe throwing the PSP a bone since it's actually picked up sales.

@Benga: In terms of support, we should also take into account the amount of money invested, which isn't much for Megaman 9. But yeah, it was big for MM fans atleast (and WiiWare was the platform instead of XBLA or PSN).

With Japan trash-CASUAL stuff - YES.

With hardcore games, which are not selling well on Wii - NOT really.
Of`course there will be some new games, But i wouldn`t expect much. That 4-5 mln. Wii advantage by the end of September, in reality doesn`t have effect on hardcore games sales.

The only thing in favour of Wii, it`s cheaper to develope for it. =)

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far
