Forums - Gaming - Denis Dyack: "ForumZ iz Serious Bidness, NeoGAF iz Goin Down!"

Lookie what Mr. Dyack had to say about NeoGAF:

The thread they are talking about is a thread Dyack started about Too Human. The game has received a lot of flack, so Denis thought he would do a thread counting all those who are for Too Human and all those against Too Human. It was eventually locked.

According to Dyack, the infamous NeoGAF thread was started as an experiment to expose the lack of accountability in online forums. "I was basically calling out people who had no way of assessing the game," Dyack says, adding, "All I wanted to point out to people is that this is so ridiculous." Near the end of the segment, he lays out exactly why he made the post:

"I went through all of this for two reasons.... If you're going to look at the NeoGAF forum as a non-profit organization, if it does not reform itself, it's eventually going to crumble. There's going to be a point where they step over the line where someone's going to shut them down. That would be a loss for everyone.... The question I have to ask the moderators of GAF: Are you going to follow your own rules? With people making GIFs of myself that are, I would say, attacking me.... Why haven't 180 people been banned now? If I wanted to move in and shut that place down, do I have grounds under their own forum policy?"

Dyack concludes, "NeoGAF and other forums like this that don't have good management are not only hurting society and hurting the videogame industry, they're in decline, and they need to reform quickly before people stop listening to them.... If the moderators and people who run the site think they aren't doing any damage, they are sorely mistaken, and it's only a matter of time before something bad happens."

Damn it Dolla, you made me spit my lemonade with that

And yeah, what a surprise that NeoGAF has no control. He should come and post here instead

Denis Dyack....I love this guy.

He takes all the forums so seriously. Perhaps he should spend less time reading GAF and more time making his freaking games.

No .GIF?

Honestly this Dyack guy sounds like a moron. All he is doing here is legitimizing the very comments he wanted to censor.

If he's spending all his time whining about what forum posters are saying, then is it any surprise that his company only produces one game a decade? (slight exaggeration. But only slight).

Also I will add that he clearly doesn't know what he is dealing with here...this article is like blood in the water. If he thought the rhetoric was bad before I'm betting the shit is about to hit the fan...cause the folks who agreed with him at GAF aren't going to stick up for him anymore....I certainly wouldn't.

The funny thing is... he's not exactly wrong... though i don't know where the "hurts society" thing comes from.

Granted you can go with the Internet hurting society because it lets lone nutjobs come together and become a group of nutjobs with the same crazy ideas instead of having the few lone guys have to either come back to sanity or be isolated so they are generally dormant.

But that arguement really applies more to shut ins, conspiracy believers that are mentally disturbed, racists and stuff like that.

Ironically, this is also attacking the hand that feeds him - by pissing off the "hardcore" that should be buying his game...

I think TooHuman might flop - MS is going to have to advertise its butt off.

Here's the thread for all those interested:

It's already been locked and archived. If I had noticed Denis Dyack had started the thread back when it was still opened, I probably would've clicked on it.

I was reading through it a bit yesterday. Basically, Too Human was getting shit on in just about every thread made about it on gaf, so Denis made this thread asking for all those who think the game will be good to post saying "for" and all those who think it will probably turn out bad to post "against".

He also made a bet, saying that if the game turns out to be mediocre he would get a tag that said, "Owned by gaf," and if the game turned out great, all those that put "against" would get a tag that read, "Owned by Too Human."

The only problem with this bet was that there were no negative repercussions for those posting "for", which led to a lot of people posting "for" for stupid reasons, saying stuff like, "This thread is great! Denis has balls of steel! For!"

The thread started out with a a majority of people posting "for" with a few people questioning the existence of the thread here and there. After awhile, a lot of the more negative guys start showing up, and it ended up being a big fight between them and DD.

As far as what DD defines to be mediocre, he basically said that he thinks Too Human is SK's best game yet, and that it will be better than most holiday releases this year, so you can see where he stands with that. Of course, he later backpedaled and made comparisons to Lair and Haze.
