ehh no. Just like curling is NOT a Sport!!! and judo is not fighting!

1) An amusement or pastime.

by that defenition, the movies released on PSP can be called games ?

also PS3s home can be called a game then ?

Correct? One could theoretically insert the word "interactive" into the sentence, if you prefer. It doesn't change a thing.

I was gonna suggestive the interactive part. I was just gona toss this in: "Tetris" the most played electronic game EVER was pretty much a "non game" then, it was part puzzle but not exactly, just a thought. Also, yes I believe Home could be considered a fun interactive area that some people will consider a game, just as many that enjoy Sims, 2nd Life, etc...

And no curling is not a "sport", I don't give a shit if it's in the Olympics or not, it's a game(LOL)....

Blue3 stop being an jerk, to each his own.

EDIT: Now I could get behind horseshoes in the Olympics, HAH

That's why when you say 'non-game' because it is a game by the narrow definition of it, but isn't a game like other video games are. Quotations do the work.

It seems the literal definition of brain age would be mini-game collection which is not that much better in my view but I'll use that term if you are so offended by 'non-game'.

By the "narrow definition" of it? How about just by "the definition" of it? It is a game. The end.

I absolutely agree that Brain Age is a different type of game than many other video games. That does not change, in any way, the fact that Brain Age is a game. Using your logic, any game that falls outside the traditionally popular video games isn't a game. Saying "Brain Age isn't like other games!" does not make it fit the definition of "game" any less.

And yes, calling it a mini-game collection would be much better. Thank you.

I like some people on this site who are so extremely against the PS3 and 360 that they tell you to go outside if you want graphics LOL, I'm not going to point out the strangeness of that but I am going to point out the same people play Brain Age to 'train their minds' when you can play brain teasers for free like everywhere (newspapers, magazine, internet).... makes a lot of sense.

I agree. I think some reasonable people can say that graphics aren't everything, bu a few go so far as to imply that great graphics are bad. I'm definitely with you on that one, that's unreasonable, too.

I can't stand Brain Age because I consider it Nintendo duping the public by claiming it helps maintain mental alertness even though there's no known study or any type of proof to support that claim.  Nintendo itself refuses to come clean about it and provide any scientific evidence at all.

"Brain Age is the first of a planned series of brain games from Nintendo. It includes word and number puzzles, connect-the-dots exercises and other challenges. Most of the activities are timed. When the player is finished, the game issues a "brain age" that is tracked on a graph to show progress over the weeks and months the brain-exercise regimen is completed. The goal is for the brain age to be at least equal to or below the player's actual age.

The game taps into a growing body of medical research suggesting that brain teasers and problem-solving games can improve memory and brain function in older people, even those with dementia."

Certainly no one has studied the impace of Brain Age specifically, but the puzzle book it was based on was created in response to studies which demonstrated the benefits of those types of puzzles.

I agree with you that is why Shadow of Colossus is not a game like many others it is just some kind of boss battles collection. Metal Gear Solid is also some  kind of interactive movie much like Dragon`s Lair. Well considering that the game can be finished under 2 hours skiping all cutscenes and that there is 10+ hours of codec conversation and movies (3:30 on the first Metal Gear) it a non game in the classic definition of game. We can call it a interactive movie with short breaks for boss battles with you want.

Yeam I'm sure if Nintendo games looked worse these people would be happier... not.

No comment at all, complete BS. Yes yes they're both movies not games you proved your point...

Bodhesatva, while I understand your point - people use non-game as a offense, kinda like "if you play this you are not a true gamer" - I do not think that non-game is a completely wrong term. Take for example some trainers for the DS (I love the system by the way) like skin care, sommelier DS. Maybe these softwares are not meant to be played (I do not know as I have not seen them). Maybe they are developed to help or expand the user experience of the DS system. Think about using your DS as a GPS or to store cocktail and food recipes. What make Cooking Mama and Brain Age games in my opinion is the existence of goals and scores. The Stock Market is not a game and neither is the trials in America however Capcom released games that use them as themes. Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright series) is a brilliant game that uses well a idea that many would say: "a game about trials? This is retarded". Capcom did not release the stock market game but I am looking forward to it.
