When Microsoft assimilated the whole Mountain Dew "EXTREME KAYAKING" image for their marketing strategies, that's when they jumped the shark. EXTREME SHARKJUMPING!

The Wizard was a movie about this autistic kid who runs away from home with his older brother (Fred Savage), and they find out the kid is a savant who can master any video game. They travel across the country on some wacky adventures on their way to a big video game tournament.

Throughout the movie you have the villain Lucas Barton ("I love the Power Glove. It's so bad.")

It also has people calling the Nintendo Power hotline for hot tips and tricks.

And at the big tournament, they actually debuted SMB3... in the movie... before the game came out.

Most genius successful marketing strategy for a game ever, and that's why it's the best-selling non-bundled video game of all time.

Also, the movie is hilarious. It was hilarious then and it's hilarious now. It's campy as hell and they even have a chase scene through Universal Studios. It has everything you could ever hope for in a movie.

I got it on VHS for $6 at a thrift store. And now it's out on DVD!!!

^^Dear god..no accounting for taste. The movie is far from humorous. A large commercial for their products. I find this to be some of the most distasteful usage of the film medium.  And if you say anything good about that fucking Mario Bros movie I will lose all faith in the world.

The Mario Bros. movie is good for different reasons. Better actors, Bob Hoskins, Dennis Hopper, John Leguizamo, but the story is total bullshit. They throw in some references to the Mario universe, but they get everything wrong. At least it has Super Scopes and Yoshi and Bo-Bombs in it. It's like a campy wacky adventure movie, good for seeing drunk with some friends and laughing your ass off.

It's also the first time they established Daisy as Luigi's girlfriend. Then it became canon in all the newer Mario Golfs and Karts and whatever.

^^HOLY FUCK. Now I know who makes films like Kangaroo Jack the number one movies at the box office when they come out. Decent actors(who did shitty jobs in this movie) in shit movies is like putting diamonds on a turd. Regardless of how you feel about the movie it is indeed milking something that should not be milked in this way. Whoever thought Mario should be on the big screen should be decapitated. It is a character who jumps on enemies and collects man sized coins(not knocking the games because they are awesome, most of them anyway), and this in no way correlates to something even resembling decent plot and character development.  There is no way a sane human being could claim this is anything other than a lame attempt to cash in on an icon's success.
