Forums - Gaming - Most recent gaming disappointment?

I kinda agree with GTA IV, it was a blast the first couple times I played it but I actually put it down for a week or so and didn't even finish it until this week!

Where I will say the game did a good job was stories and characters, it all tied in and characters weren't just there for over the top comic releif.

But I hear ya, I tried to go back to the game a couple days ago, you know to just screw around and Liberty City? Lost interest in 15 mins.  It just didn't have that same feeling for me as the other ones.

San Andreas still holds the record as best in series  for me, parachuting, flying jets, vegas, bike rides, mayhem, dates, etc.

That's the game that should've got all the gushing scores GTA IV got. GTA IV not a horrible game, but after the hype build up I was expecting a little something more.

Super Paper Mario, bought it a couple of months before and I'm still in ch. 2,
I can't seem to be interested in the game...................

I hear ya Pichu. If you actually find the motivation to get to Chapter 4, you will be bored out of your potatoes.

As for Grand Theft Auto 4, causing havoc is not nearly as fun as it used to be. The only things I do in the game are the side missions (ambulance, police), normal missions, hanging out, using internet, and trying to get achievements. That may sound like a good amount, but it's nothing like what San Andreas was like. There were so many good moments. I think it's customary for every GTA game to be hated for some reason anyways, so I don't care. It's still one of the best games I've played this generation.

Oblivion it was so crap. i really dont see how it managed the high review scores...
Since then i dont realy listen to reviewers

Resident Evil 0 and RRR.

I could agree with that. While my view on GTAIV is a little skewed because I'm not a giant fan of the series, my time with GTAIV (which just ended last week when I took it back to Blockbuster) was a little 'meh'. I thought the story was interesting and it kept me playing to find out how everything goes down, but that was pretty much the only thing keeping me from completely hating the chore of getting around the city (apart from finding comedy in performances, television, the radio, ect). 25ish hours and the last mission of the story and I had to ask myself "Was that really a '10'?"

For me, it was SMG. I got a Wii for WiiFit, and so I had to get the game everyone was talking about. While it's not a bad game, it does not remotely live up to the hype. For me anyway.

I got about half way though it, and got bored.

GTA IV for me as well.

I played the game to 100% and can decidedly say that it is weak compared to San Andreas. There are a host of reasons why, but the main ones are that it has much less variety and it's much less rewarding. I spent the second half of the game wishing I was playing SA. It's a genuine step backward.

Assassin's Creed - really wish I hadn't paid to play this game. Supposedly it gets better, but the initial sci-fi concept, the repetition, the fight mechanics, the AI, the list just keeps going on and on. It's just not fun to play at all. Visually, it looked better in still screen shots than in motion.

GTAIV - won't say it's a big disappointment as I still like the presentation better than the previous chapters I never bothered to finish, but the point is, I still haven't finished this one either, and frankly, I have little desire to keep playing mission to mission and will unlikely ever finish this one either unless it's on a strange whim.

Halo 3 - Not bad by any means, but even after playing through the campaign and fooling around online, I still don't see what the huge allure is.

Metroid Prime 3 - Vastly improved controls over previous MP games thanks to the IR camera aiming, but lock on feature (lock screen view) and shifting aim controls (point of aim controls point of view) did not feel as natural as they could have without having to rely upon an analog stick. The game play was not sharp enough to keep me playing unlike the 2D versions.

I think I need to give this one another chance, but it was genuinely beginning to feel like a chore to play, which is usually the best reason to stop playing, especially for a title I was really looking forward to playing (enough to buy on opening day which I rarely ever do).

Twilight Princess - Loved the art direction and was hoping for an Ocarina like quest with brilliant motion controls. This was one of the reasons I bought a Wii and I played about ten hours through before putting it aside after losing interest in the story, with the firm, but as of yet unrealized intention to continue playing.
Lots of text and few voices, which may never change for a Zelda game.
Motion controls added nothing for me. Random remote waves for the same sword swinging sequence felt very tacked on.

Like MP3, this is a game that deserves a full play through, but it has failed to captivate me in a way I had hoped.

This list was not about games I thought were poor, in keeping with the OP, but games I felt ultimately disappointed with after the anticipation and wait. Halo 3/GTAIV were not on my anticipated list, but hyped as "must buy" and IMO, weren't.

Mass Effect-the story was good but the combat was horrible and the technical issues didn't help. I am in no hurry to try the PC version.

Is Oblivion really that bad? I am starting to think that the only reason why some fans have low hopes for Fallout 3 is because it is different from Fallout 1 & 2. I never played them so I wouldn't know how some of you feel. I think Fallout 3 is looking pretty good.

Oblivion is awful.  That's my pick as well. Honestly one of the worst games I've ever played in my life.
