Forums - Nintendo - Does Wii Zelda Really Make Sense This E3?

The time span between Zeldas has been a lot shorter in recent years than you seem to think. One of them hits the console about every two years, so an E3 announcement for the game this Fall wouldn't be out of the question.

Yep that is true.  I would love to see some sorta teaser at E3...but I'm not really counting on it. .

Also just for reference as to the announce vs release date for Zelda titles since OoT.  Taken from http://purenintendo.com/2008/06/29/why-nintendo-should-announce-a-new-zelda-and-ds-at-e3/

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Announced - December 1995

Released - November 1998

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

Announced - June 1999

Released -October 2000

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Announced - August 2001

Released - March 2003

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

It makes sense but Nintendo announces their game so close to release nowadays.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Majora's Mask was announced within a year of the release of Ocarina of Time.

Wind Waker, with the transition to the next console, was announced two years after Majora's Mask.

Twilight Princess was announced a year after Wind Waker.

It has now been eighteen months since the release of Twilight Princess.

It's not definite by any means, but I wouldn't bet against it.

Doubt it.

Nintendo has too many teams doing god knows what.

Retro/Hal/the Wii Fit team/the Galaxy team/EAD/Intelligent Systems/Monolith/and RD1-4 should all be fairly free.

I'm sure some of the teams are doing Disaster, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Wii Music but that should leave six-ten teams with unannounced projects for a while.

Dude it's already in development.  It's not a question of if its coming or what not, but if it'll be shown this E3.  We already know the game is being worked on.  It's been worked on since 2006.

I think they should not announce another Zelda making them rare makes me enjoy them even more.

People who say this are just fans who REALLY want one and dont wanna rule anything out.
We wont see anything this E3. I say next year we'll get a trailer and probably come 2010 2011.

If it's already been in development for 2 yrs, then yea it makes sense. Not to mention Nintendo has done this before with Zelda games. Show them off well before there release.(Zelda:TP at E3 2004)

Again, if it uses the TP engine, it will require much less development time.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

If those rumors that it started development a year before tp was released are true then I could see it coming as the Christmas release. Also I think this is true, because like somebody said before it was delayed. Meaning 3 years of development time so far.

Of course there's going to be a Link game at E3, Link's Crossbow Training. But that's it for a couple of years.

Why would it use the TP engine? Knowing Nintendo, they'd want to make a new Wii Zelda use a better engine than the engine used on their console before.

Personally, I think a new Wii Zelda will use a new engine and look better than SMG!

There is no need to. THe architectures of the gc and wii are so similar any engine created for the previous would work well on the latter, and take its potential. I could see them just tweaking the engine to benefit from the wiis advantages. Smg got it's own engine, because it had to be developed around specific worlds, and random objects in space.
